Agreed. The 2017 guys will also be beloved to me, regardless where they end up. Love Springer, love Correa, love em all
There should be no ill will towards Springer leaving the Astros. If you had earned a significant raise multiple times at your job and every time the subject was approached management shot you down, you would be annoyed. Springer wanted to sign a long-term deal to be here before he got close to free agency. The Astros’ front office kept playing it year-to-year in arbitration.
Signing Hader might be one of the best things we could have done for Tucker and Bregman. Shows we are committed. Crane isn’t just gonna sit around and wait for a rebuild. Sign an extension and stay on the ride! Or you can go find a new team like springer. Or Cole . Or correa.
Other than Mike Fiers, I couldn’t agree more. I especially wanted Correa to be an Astro for life after the way he stepped up to become a leader on and off the field after the sign-stealing scandal punishment was announced. The way he always had Altuve’s back when people called him a cheater or told the Cody Bellinger’s of the world to know the facts before you say something made me so happy.
He played 154 games in 2023 and 133 in 2022. Outside of 2021 he has been very healthy. His power was down in 2023 which may have been due to playing hurt but he was out there.
2023 top 5: wRC+aredes,Riley,Bregman,Devers,Henderson fWAR:Riley,Ramirez,Henderson,Bregman,Paredes DRS:Hayes,McMahon,Chapman,Riley,Bregman I think the only 2 you can definitively put ahead of him are Riley and Ramirez. He, Machado, and Arenado are probably the next 3 in some order.
I could make a pretty good argument than no Astro came up bigger in the playoffs than Springer during this incredible 7-year run
There were a lot of fans not pleased with the way Springer handled his exit from the Astros. Some took his lack of defending or standing up for team after the scandal broke out was an issue. He was salty how they handled him being called up. Apparently Luhnow offered him a lowball extension to stay with the Astros. I think Luhnow with Crane didn’t feel the need to offer Springer a massive contract with Tucker ready to step up. For me, I appreciate everything Springer did. I don’t have any ill feelings towards Springer. The only Astro I had issues with not named Fiers would be Lance Berkman, but I’m not going to go down that rabbit hole.
Only 3 free agents fit that description: Cody Bellinger, Travis Jankowski, and Tony Kemp. Bellinger is a star who would displace Meyers as the everyday CF. Jankowski and Kemp would be cheap bench players who would replace Kessinger or Singleton. Trade targets: Josh Lowe, Jake McCarthy, Willi Castro, TJ Friedl, Jarren Duran, Jazz Chisolm, Jake Fraley, Steven Kwan, Nolan Jones, Zack McKinstry, Will Benson, Cedric Mullins, Daulton Varsho, Drew Waters, Akil Baddoo
There’s a lot of good names on that list that I like. Really only Mullins and Friedl would be super expensive. I think all of them except Waters would be a potential upgrade over Meyers.
To lose in the first round lol come on MLB script writers Shoutout to the edit: Giants! for the Mickey Mouse ears give away when they play La. lmao love that
Snake said it in the other thread… the Dodgers have the deepest rotation on paper. Anything short of a World Series championship is a bust.
