I don't think Sports Illustrated's actions in 2023 doomed them in 2024; it was probably their inaction in 2013. They were already dying a very slow death.
Why in D&D? I don't get it. The death of print journalism is a pretty basic economic reality, no? Or does anyone take the vapid "trans cover in 2023 = magazine death in 2024, neglecting years of declining subscriptions documented for like a decade" analysis seriously, like, at all? Jesus, people. No, maybe literal Jesus in your lives? Think Jesus would get his robe in a wad over a trans person on a magazine cover? [That's a rhetorical question.]
LOL...........there is this new thing called the "internet", not sure if you have heard of it but people dont buy magazines or books anymore LOL.......but it fits your narrative so HOME RUN
ATW has a compulsive need for sharing cool trans stories. Nothing to do with the publisher being in the red for years. P.S. AREN is at or close to its all-time low; might be time to pick up a few shares now that it's trying to transform it's business mode.
TV Guide is still going. One of my elderly relatives still subscribes to it and gets a magazine weekly.
the mistake SI made was never putting Sengun on the cover, as soon as Alpi hit the NBA, they should have had him on the cover. that issue would have sold a bajillion jillion copies
You are correct that print has been in decline, but some publications managed to build a successful online/hybrid presence. Publishing content that is diametrically opposed to what your core target group likes probably did not help with that.
#1 - She looks hot #2 - They had years and years of massive losses. They didn't see any real negative impact to their bottom line, but you can only hemmorage money for so long before people stop investing or lending.
