Rockets won’t trade Jalen for grimes straight up. There would have to be something else from the knicks
There is no way that Knicks HC Tom Thibodeau would want JG4, especially for a player who actually tries on defense. The only JG4 trade I can see is for another high draft pick who similarly needs a change of scenery.
It's a lot higher than people here imagine. I'm sure of that. Few things, he's 21. This is big. Teams always think they can 'fix' a prospect or that he just needs a new outlook or whatever the case. The other thing, grass is greener syndrome exists for NBA execs too. Some people are far too down on his value like some suggesting he has negative value, no way. I'm sure some teams might grade him as such, "You have to give us picks to trade for him!" but Rockets simply won't deal with those teams. I'm not going by any insider knowledge but just a guy that's been watching this sport for decades. He still has positive value and Rockets could get a good starter for him straight up and likely draft compensation along with that because the team acquiring him will still be attracted to his potential given his age...and given his age it might very well look like a dumb trade years from now.
Depends on the team. Jalen is of little value to the Knicks for example. They're similar in build to us. Efficient hard nosed players is what they want. Everything Jalen isn't. The Nets? Possibly. They need an upside swing but they aren't trading Bridges for Green. They'd want picks back. Maybe Green/25 FRP would get it done. Wouldn't give much more than that. I think Jalen's value is a lot lower than you think it is. Also been watching the league a long time and some players that I'm reminded of when it comes to Green is Deandre Ayton, Thomas Robinson and Stromile Swift. There are very few teams that are in need of someone like Jalen Green that would give up anything of significant value. I could maybe see the Pacers trading for him as he fits their run and gun offense. Maybe the Mavericks or Suns. Basically all offense no defense teams.
Good points but I disagree with the Pacers, Suns and Mavericks.... Most likely those teams are looking for their Defense to balance out their Offense just a tiny bit and Jalen Green is not that tiny bit....... And Jalen Green is not an elite scorer he was advertised as well, otherwise he would drop 30+ on most nights, which he is not. He is still too weak against Elite Defenses ......and the Pacers are pretty good against elite Defenses as well......
Ayton illustrates my point though. The Suns traded Ayton, who most agree disappointing player, for a 3x all-star that's 30 years old. Thomas Robinson was a pure bust that showed no glimmer of hope. Ayton and Green did do enough to where I think other teams will want to to take a chance on him. I think you're seeing Green as only just a solid piece, teams trading for him will think "Maybe we can get the potential out of this guy" not just if he's a solid piece. They are going to see a higher ceiling on him. Like I do not think Portland for example traded for Ayton as just a solid piece, they saw it as hey lets roll the dice on this guy and see if a change of scenery will unlock his potential.
Jalen is as well though, that's what I mean, the guy is not a hard bust like Thomas Robinson or Thabeet. He's had enough flash games to where his potential is still a thing. He has enough moments where you do see what was promised, the speed, the finishing, the hitting tough shots. Defensively he has improved. Any team trading for Jalen won't see him as a finished project. If they did, then yeah, his value is low. But I'm willing to bet if the Rockets trade him this year (this deadline or offseason) we get a good haul out of it. Some team out there absolutely will bite on the potential...and they could be right. Plenty of players break out on their 2nd teams too. Hell, OKC thought Harden would be nothing but a 6th man fringe all-star at best. Not that the situation is similar, but just saying players do breakout on their 2nd team sometimes.
That is true but he is also a gamble for any franchises that has aspirations..... It depends like with the Magic you know they would not go for a Jalen Green type...... Magic love to have size at most positions...... I doubt most franchises would have scouted the minimal improvements that Jalen had on Defense, yeah, the Rockets noticed but most likely a lot of teams still have Jalen in Silas mode in their minds. As I said before, Jalen should have been a 6th man, known 6th men have a market out there. Harden had physical tools that Jalen does not have, Harden was pretty thick and strong in Arizona...and already defeated the Spurs in the Playoffs by himself as his calling card...plus he was a very good playmaker off the bench. In short, Harden was more reliable even in his 2nd year.
Yes the NBA scouted Jalen and saw a top 3 pick. Teams are not always making moves for right now, many teams are making moves 5 years from now. Teams will see Green as a prospect and that he might be better than another prospect already on their team. Prospect starved teams, Chicago, Jazz, Spurs, Wizards, Raptors this off the top of my head. Yeah, contending teams won't want him but we likely don't want anything from a contending team that they'd be willing to give up because those teams don't want to mess with whatever they have going.
I think the Ayton part was that they wanted to pair up Scoot and Simons with a big and opportunity presented itself. Right now I only see Green as a filler to a bigger package, not something that can stand on its own feet...... A package that could get you something like a Grimes but only if a decent 1st rounder is involved..... Maybe a 14th pick for Jalen even but that team has to brush that 14th pick off......
If Gilbert Arenas was the GM, he would give you Brunson for Jalen Green. He lost touch with reality and he does not watch games no more. Good thing for teams Gil is a podcaster only.
They are in the asset collection period of their team rebuild. That means acquires as many players that have 'potential' as possible and hope 2-3 of them work out. The period we are still in kind of. So these teams, the ones I named, I doubt these teams are thinking that much about their team identity if they ever have one. Like I'm sure we could flip Green for a veteran, easily, the question is if it is worth it to do so because if you lflip Green for Kuzma or something you might get better but if Green goes on to then breakout you're looking mighty stupid. Put it like this. Kings made this decision a few years ago. They traded Haliburton for Sabonis. The latter, really nice player, they got better instantly for sure...but ask Kings fans if they'd still do that trade knowing what we know now about Haliburton? This is the real question about the prospect of trading Green, there's risks to it as well and if you're trading him to marginally get better just to make the play-in this year...I'm not sure I'd go for it... At the same time, no contending team is going to give us a great starter for him because they are contending and are looking to tweak their team not swap out a starter for a maybe. This is why I don't see Green getting traded this deadline, offseason, maybe...but deadline I don't think so.
Thing is again...no one was saying this about Harden when we traded for him. People said we got Joe Johnson at best. I remember that pretty well. If OKC thought he was a future MVP candidate they obviously don't trade him for a then very fringe all-star vet on his last legs. Their calculus was that Martin could be just as effective a 6th man and won't want the money that Harden did. My point is, trading young players there's always risks, for both teams...but for teams like again the Wizards or Raptors...they are clearly rebuilding and and asset collection mode, if they flip a solid vet for an asset that's not as much of a risk for them. I mean RJ Barrett also a disappointment AND older still netted the Knicks a solid starter. I think the Rockets can get a solid starter for Jalen the question is...is it worth it just to have a better chance to make the play-in? I'm not entirely sold on that idea. I think we are still VERY much trying to find our identity. Defensively, we are a little bit sure but offensively this team is VERY VERY confused.
