What should we do with the offense?

  1. Don't change anything

    45.8%
  2. Cut down FVV's 2PT shots and spread the wealth

    It has survived but it is not something spectacular like the Malone and Stockton connect.....

    Or the Nash Stoudemire.

    Normally those games with history energize you .....so who knows.

    Celtics are the favorite there is no doubt.

    Here is an interesting analysis on the Şengün/FVV connection from a non-Rockets fan on Reddit.

    "That sort of chemistry usually takes years to develop between pairs unless one or both are an absolute star."

    League rankings:

    PPG = 22
    FG% = 24
    3p% = 23
    Ast = 25
    Pace = 20
    Off rating = 21
    TS = 23
    Ast/TO = 19

    Dead last in the NBA in loose balls recovered. Have dropped from 2nd in the NBA in free throw rate last year to 25th.

    Let me guess ..... Jalen Green?

    But yeah that FVV/Sengun PNR is pretty spiffy and efficient!

    It's kind of sad that the only posts you make some sort of sense are the ones you are trying to be sarcastic about.

    Not Jalen Green, the problem is the bench and poor depth which is mostly due to age. I mean obviously it would help if Jalen wasn't underperforming but the bigger problem with our offense by far is the bench. The only time we are a passable offense is when these two are both on the court.

    FVV/Sengun on court: 116.4 Offensive Rating (Would be 15th in the league)
    FVV on, Sengun off: 113.3 ORTG (Would be 23rd)
    Sengun on, FVV off: 111.4 ORTG (Would be 26th)
    FVV/Sengun off court: 108.8 ORTG (Would be 28th)

    Spam the living hell out of the play. Its the only thing we do "good" besides some defensive stuff and even that has fallen off a cliff as of late. You'll still find yourself playing from behind most of the time because we cant defend the 3 and we cant shoot the 3. Its a recipe for disaster. We are a bad offensive team regardless of a few net positive rotations and this specific play type.

    What is the counter when teams take away the Houston PNR? Take turns chucking while everyone stands around looking for someone else to do something? We dont have a true 3 level scorer on this team right now.

    Yeah but that's true of all young teams isn't it? The spurs are really young and they're 28th in offense. The magic, who are doing really well this year, are 24th in offense. Portland is also a really young team and they're 30th in offense. Charlotte at 27th, the Pistons at 26th, this is just part of being a young rebuilding team.The only "young" team that has a good offense is OKC and that's obviously because of their 25 year old MVP candidate. With Shai on the bench their offensive rating is 113.99 which is coincidentally right where the rockets are at, 21st in the league.

    I think the answer to your question is the same as every young team - everyone just has to get better. Jabari has to get better, Sengun has to fget better, Jalen, Cam, Amen, literally everybody. It's just part of being young and rebuilding, you just have to hope your players develop and improve every year. We were never going to be a top 5 or even top 10 offense this year and I think that's fine. We probably won't be next year either. But as long as everyone keeps getting better year over year all we can do is hope to get there in a few years.

    I'll be looking for adjustments soon as the Freddy/Alpy PNR isnt catching anyone off guard anymore. It would be nice to find a knockdown 3pt shooter who can create off the bounce for himself and others.

    I agree that the lack of depth and youth are the main culprit. The loss of Brooks and Eason really hurt us. They are two of the better 3pt shooters on the team. They were replaced by Tate and more minutes for Jeff. That's a big drop on both ends.

    I mean what you are saying is a more of a talent issue than anything else.

    I don't really know how clever we can be on offense when there's a clear lack of shot creators and a bunch of defense specialists

    Lets try something different! How about we look to get out and run with intent on rebounds? You could possibly create a few easy buckets in transition. Install some screens and backdoor plays to get our above the rim guys some alley oops and layups. Jabari is underutilized in the post.

    I wish we could redline the Ferraris we have and morph in and out of playing up tempo basketball.

    We need Cam to take over Jalen's starter minutes at the 2 and to get Tari back. A legit backup center would be nice too.

    I agree on Jabari…
    I don’t agree on the Ferraris. Where are these Ferraris? Are they in the room with you right now?

    If we had a Drexler or Westbrook type of player that can play downhill and pressure defenses, there is no coach on the NBA who would leash them. Ime Udoka is not that dumb. But we don’t have that.

    We don’t even have off-ball high-octane running/jumping specialists like Chase Budinger that can potentially run the wing lanes. Jalen can run and jump but he wants the ball and wants to dance, not that type of specialist, really…

    Clyde, Westbrick and ... Chase Budinger? Thats interesting. Is anybody running 'wing lanes' now? Everyone sprints down the court and waits for Sengun to get position, dump it in - kick it out. Players shuffle positions on the 3 point line watching Sengun work. Hard to believe the inactivity from ALL PLAYERS on offense when Sengun has the ball is not by design.
