https://www.nba.com/stats/team/1610612745/onoffcourt-advanced Tate’s issue is that he is basically a 6’4 PF with a measly 6’8 wingspan who barely shoots 30% from deep. He is not versatile position-wise on offense or defense, and he kills spacing Tari Eason is 6’8 with a 7’2 wingspan…albeit on small volume, he is shooting 36% from three this year and 35% for his career…he’s an excellent rebounder…he is top 25 in deflections per game despite barely playing 20 mpg…we are a +9.4 with Tari on the court which is the highest by far, and -2.5 with him off…even on last year’s sorry team which had a -8.1 net rating, it dropped down to -4.8 with Eason on, and was -11.2 with him off Tari and Tate are in completely different stratospheres despite whatever inefficiency since Tari can bring so much more to the game Green creates for others at a below average level, and yeah, he can create for himself, but he can’t hit any of those shots he creates so it’s still negative value…that’s basically OKC Melo on offense…Melo could do all these fadeaways, jab-steps, etc and create looks for himself all day, but he couldn’t hit any of them at an acceptable rate while taking so many shots 3.1 assists to 2.2 turnovers is pretty mediocre at best for a SG Sengun is a C generating 5 apg…Fred averages almost 9 apg…Jalen meanwhile barely averages 3 while giving u the same turnovers as both of them
It is weird - it is like he has his head up his ass at all times. Not going to lie - looked like Amen Thompson's normal three point jumper though.
Maybe for some people it's simple. And maybe they are right. I still try to keep a cool head and look at it at different angles. What I am quite sure is that if we all can see so clearly he is not good, then the scouts of other teams are seeing it too. Why would anybody want to give us anything good for him?
Ironically, wasn't that Beard? If Maxey's stepback is anything to go by he certainly had some input...
I really wish they’d signed Harden this offseason, but I’ll save that sermon for another day Harden definitely had an impact on Maxey’s game, but whoever is his personal trainer that he works with most, Jalen better book him all summer next offseason
hahah he is so bad. I'm so jealous of the other fanbases who literally watch what he does on the court and are laughing their ass of over the Rockets taking him #2 and wasting the pick. Meanwhile we as Rockets fans have to watch each game and take another kick to the guts.
I think it's becoming apparent that Jalen isn't a good fit for the slow paced system the Rockets are trying to run now. It's not what he was drafted for. His athleticism is rarely on display, the lobs are basically GONE despite playing with an upgraded point guard, he doesn't get out in transition as much, and his half court game has never been very good. Hes also not very good defensively. He's looking like a square peg in a round hole. I'm not sure trying to force him to adapt is ever going to work, and it's probably not good for him as a player either. As much as I hate to say it, we are halfway into the season now and it's just not working out. It might be best for everyone to move on. For what it's worth, I still think the kid can be a star, I just don't know if it will ever be here.
Am I tripping or didn't this very Rockets team have the worst transition defense and most turnovers per game in the history of the NBA just last season with a faster pace? I think it's time to stop looking for excuses and admit the fact that he's just not good at basketball. Being able to make wide open 3s has nothing to do with pace.
I'm not really at a disagreement on tari. Hes a role player and viewed as such and liked. I view Jalen in the same lens and i just dont get nearly as upset as everyone else. He fits a role. Just a quick few SGs i decided to look at just out of curiousity to compare: Jaylen Brown 3.5/2.6 Zach Lavine 4.0/2.1 Booker 7.8/2.9 Bane 5.3/2.7 Klay 2.4/1.7 Herro 4.3/2.5
I just don’t see how Jalen can be viewed in the same lens…he’s not really good at anything right now and is a huge net negative on the court at his current level, Jalen should be nothing more than a 20 mpg bench scorer, but we’ve got him starting playing 30 minutes and jacking up 15 shots his current role here is net negative, inefficient chucker…if the Rockets had a Tari Eason equivalent as the starting SG, there would be an immediate and noticeable improvement he actively makes the team worse with his play which is so sad to watch
Because like i referenced numerous times, hes the only person besides fred who can facilitate and operate the offense and pnr scheme. Thats his main role. This team has no shooters or any offensive creators either, and so hes the 3rd goto scorer, and this is where his efficiency has failed. Again he creates good looks but cant convert the looks he creates himself, but creates good looks for others. The only other person who can create offense is Cam, but its only for himself rn and he becomes a black hole on offense. Hes worse on defense and until he can grow and gain Udokas trust hes going to have a short leash. That leaves Jalen. Hes not efficient enough to be a successful 3rd scorer yet (or ever) but he creates good offense and his defebse, much to the dismay of fans, hasnt been as atrocious as they think. Ultimately he is our best option at the 2 roles he provides. 2nd facilitator/ball handling creator - pretty good 3rd option scorer - pretty bad
I mean...it is that simple. Let's take a look: Finishing ability: subpar Shooting: subpar Playmaking: subpar Defense: subpar Rebounding: Fine? Handle: Fine? What does he do at an above-average NBA level on a consistent basis? The answer is nothing, therefore the simple conclusion is he is not good at NBA-level basketball. This doesn't require different angles of thinking. His performances speak for themselves. And yes...his trade value is nonexistent. We'd get a mid to late first round pick at most.
