Do the Nets even have the ability to absorb Lillard's guaranteed $45M/$48M/$58M/$63M over the next 4 years? And will a 36-year-old Lillard actually be worth $63M??
Portland isn’t taking back that albatross contract just for picks. They could probably find a team with some large expirings, a couple of young players and a similar pick package.
Having lost to Portland last night (1-18-24), the reportedly "competitive" Nets are 16-24. Currently, Tankathon lists them with the 8th worst record, and the Rockets at 6% of nabbing the #1 overall pick in the draft. If Brooklyn bottoms out, maybe this moves to a 9 or 10% odd. As we saw last year, the top 3 teams with a 14% chance still require a lot of good fortune. On the other hand, OKC will get Houston's pick as the 12th selection. They also pick #14 (Utah's spot) and #23 (Clippers). Surely, they trade something away because there might not be enough roster spots for their riches.
Ashley giveth and Ashley taketh. I think OKC buys an international team and stashes American players there, just kidding......
No. First of all, I don't want Bridges for us, and for what he'll cost. Mikal's a #3 guy on a contender. The 24 Nets pick is likely in the 6 - 8 range, with the potential for higher. Green has a speculative value of around a 7-9 pick. Too much.
Mikai would be an immense upgrade, but I don't know if they would do that. And I'm not sure that I want to give up that Nets's pick very easily. I like their bigs, Day'Ron Sharpe (6'11 265) and Nicolas Claxton (6'11 215). Is there way in which one can smuggle one of them out of Brooklyn?
It’s not crazy that the nets make a deal to improve their team and finish middle of the pack. I’m not saying that’s gonna happen, but it’s possible. Management is taking a lot of heat right now. Somehow I don’t trust they will fully implode. I guess we’ll see if they come out of the deadline with a difference-maker like Murray. They have picks from pervious trades. Or maybe they move Simmons to Chicago for Lavine. Maybe Chicago bites to get off that max contract 2 yrs earlier (Simmons is an expiring next season). My point is I don’t think we can just expect Sean Marks to sit on his ass. So we shouldn’t be scared to move the nets pick if we get a solid offer.
With Rockets coming down to Earth (5-6 seed was never gonna be in play) Nets sucking is the silver lining. I don't think they'll be worse than the bottom 4 currently, so the pick could be in 6-10 range which isn't bad at all. I think for Rockets, we know we have a real thing in Sengun so continue to develop that as a main piece, continue to see if we have another real thing in another player - Jabari and Whitmore MIGHT be something while Tari and Amen are likely high-end role players - continue to take chances in draft (6-10 range isn't a bad shot) and cut pieces that just don't work. Jalen Green is one of those pieces so whether it be this trade deadline or later, we need to go forward with win-contributing players. We're still on the right track in phase 2. I think the hardest part is finding a real piece and we did in Sengun. Gotta find another and keep developing
I'm a staunch Jalen Green supporter but if they are throwing in Claxton for Green / Tate + 2024 pick then I'm probably taking that deal. The caveat on that is that we are going all-in on this core of young players and we won't really be able to further add any young talent to the group. If you truly believe in Alp being a superstar then you do that deal. To me it's still early days for committing and building around any singular guy in our "core 6".
Claxton would be a rental. He is a free agent next year and won’t re-sign to be a backup. The nets want to make Sharpe their starter. I would give Jalen and their 24 pick and the 25 swap for bridges and then trade Dipo, Tate and second rounders for a backup center. I would prefer Brogdon instead of bridges and keep Jalen and the 25 swap and let Jalen cook with the bench guys who fit his game much better than FVV.
In what world does a 3rd year guy who shown zero improvement, who’s gotten worse every year, who’s flat out not a good player on either end of the floor, land a top 10 pick?
Claxton is a UFA at the end of this season. Trading a lotto pick for someone who could walk away in a few months, or would take a lot of money to retain as a backup, isn't ideal. Our "core 6" is hardly set in stone. Jalen isn't part of the future, IMO. Cam and Amen are rookies with uncertain ceilings. We need to draft more talent around Sengun while we can. Our window is long. Embiid and Maxey were drafted six years apart. If Philly had dumped all of their picks in win now moves, they'd be toast by now. Hell, the biggest mistake in The Process was trading away the Mikal Bridges pick rather than adding him to the core.
We are not TRADING the Brooklyn pick, this pick might give us a top draft pick…I heard they are expecting to blow this team up next month
What team is being blown up. There is no reason for the Nets to blow it up without their own pick back
