ClutchFans Game Thread: Rockets @ Knicks 1/17/2024

Our team as talent go is on par with Wiz, Pistons and Hornets. Ime overachieved so far but now that every team has a playbook against Sengun and FVV we ain’t got no more offense. We need 2nd option star and Jalen is on the way to another 2nd bust pick along with Bagley and Wiseman

Also I should add since the start of the season Green gets put in with the 2nd unit when Sengun goes out.

Likely because Ime is expecting him to carry the offensive load. He's failed at that. Period. The end.

So I don't buy the idea that Sengun might be affecting his spacing. We go small when Sengun goes out with Green/Bari playing Center and Green still isn't the dynamic scoring guard we hope for him to be.

Also I think Green can play better but mentally/BBIQ wise he doesn't get it. Who knows when/if he will.

 

If we had better players we would play better.

We need Bari to shoot more threes. His current volume doesn't make a significant difference.

 

I disagree. Ime wanted the offence not to be done through Alpi in this match. This is very clear. He wanted everyone to join the offence. In fact, at one point it was Alpi who made the fewest shots after Bari.

Ime tried something new tonight but failed. This is it.

 

CF GMs are the best!

 

Zero changes needed. This team was never supposed to make the play-in this year, so if we happen to stumble in, it’s gravy. This is year 1 of our rebuild phase 2. Next year is when it becomes all about making the playoffs.

I know losing sucks, but some of you think we’re supposed to immediately jump into contention after 3 years of tanking. Time to get a reality check.

Hell if we have a guy hitting 60-70% we don't give him any shots.

I hate Tom Thibo but he has shown when to interrupt. Two successful challenges and two timely time-outs. He did not wait the difference to melt and kept Knicks 8+ points away.

Disgusting guy but experienced.

 

OH NO! we suck again!

 

Playing that way gives them the best opportunity to win. There are no other starters who can consistently create for others outside of Sengun/FVV. Brooks isn't a playmaker, Jalen sucks this season and Jabari isn't there yet. I will say though that the Rockets have become too predictable and need to switch it up. Jabari was looking good tonight but barely got any touches. They need to start running some plays throughout the game to get him some open shots. With FVV being asked to score this much I'm surprised they didn't go ahead and sign Harden.

 

Expect it to get worse until they add another playmaker and/or shooter into the starting lineup. I said this weeks ago, but Fred looks like hes lost faith in jalen being able to help him with the playmaking load.

No one outside of Sengun has asserted themselves as an offensive go to guy so Fred has assumed that role himself.

I think if they had another combo guard who could actually do stuff or a real floor spacer Fred would be less inclined to go hero mode.

If Sengun is having an off night, exactly who besides Fred are we going to give the ball to and ask to generate offense?

 

If anything, the last few games showed me that our players were starting to get more familiar with Ime’s offense. We were losing but amongst the losses I saw some cool plays and interesting dynamics (E.g. Jalen being the primary ball handler more often and Cam playing with the starters).

That’s why I was frustrated this game. We don’t really learn anything when our oldest starter decides and fails to take over the game. If we lose, we lose, but let the young guys at least have a CHANCE. Jabari got frozen out after one of the most efficient games all season. That’s so annoying
