Are you the coach or something? You write like you are a part of the organization and have decision making powers and are talking to the players. If so, did you accidentally post this here instead of an internal memo within the organization?

People need to stop deluding themselves that the rebuild is over just because Sengun broke out. It was never a 3 year rebuild, it was a 3 year tank to put the rebuild in the right place to start. I've always worked on the assumption that when Amen and Cam hit their year 3 (with Sengun and Green in year 5 and Bari and Tari in year 4) will be when the core's ready to mature and be built around. We may have some casualties on the way (Tate almost certainly, Green potentially, Amen too if he doesn't get a workable shot and a revolving door of vets and roleplayers til we get there) but by that point we'll hopefully have 2 all star caliber players, then we put all the pieces around them and push for a title run.

I think it has a lot to do with the market they are in because in the last 3 years I doubt a lot of folks were watching the Rockets live.

The brand is strong and all the legends have kept that brand afloat.

Houston is a good city to live in, at least people say that......infrastructure wise, food and living related.

According to this, https://www.forbes.com/lists/nba-valuations/?sh=7d233b636982 the Rockets had a 38% increase in franchise value from October 2022 to October 2023. That's pretty impressive. The only significant thing I can think of that MIGHT have caused that jump is the purchase of their own media rights back from the regional sports network that used to broadcast their games. And you're right, market size is a HUGE determining factor in the value of the team.

Just to compare it to another sport, in this case football.

Not that I understand anything football related but it seems most franchises moved upwards.

Just realized how much more an average NFL franchise has on an average NBA team....

90 million more in Operating Income..........and approx. 200 million more revenue.....

    Pretty huge.

I’m all for making the playoffs this year and almost certainly not getting much farther than that… IF we don’t sacrifice the next few years by making a dumb trade that prevents us from making moves in the future when it becomes actually important.

I saw a list the other day of the most watched TV programs in the US in 2023. The #1 program was the Super Bowl…and nothing was even remotely close to it. And more importantly, 14 of the top 15 most watched programs were NFL games….and the exception was the Oscars which came in at #15!! It is not an exaggeration to say that the NFL is the most popular source of entertainment in the United States. They’re printing money at this point.

The Toyota Arena capacity is only 18500 so based on this they are almost at full capacity already.

Yeah because they can usually charge their biggest capital expense (the stadium) to the taxpayers but still get to keep all the profits

Sure, but don’t expect us to be significantly better. Green is putting some effort to play the right way this year and Cam still makes too many mistakes. Cam may very well be the long-term solution but I doubt he assures us of the play-in, which was the topic.

I think we should try to get to the play-in. But, it is a bit of a balance.

We could virtually guarantee a playoff birth by depleting all our future draft picks for one of these big name guys on the trade block. But, that may not be the right move for the team 2 or 3 years from now.

I think you approach the trade deadline similar to the way they approached free agency. Get good coachable guys that will continue to support the development of our young players while helping on the court. So, we don't need a guy that thinks he's an all star. Just solid guys that can fill in the gaps but will comfortable playing a role if one of our other young guys breaks the way Sengun has.

They’re genuinely AWFUL deals for taxpayers…I know it and even guys who were the biggest advocates for public funding for stadiums before now write articles about how they were wrong before……but at this point, I’d probably still vote for one if it meant keeping my stupid teams in town :) I’ll be 50 in May. I feel pretty safe in saying, the Astros, Texans and Rockets aren’t going anywhere before I’m dead. Now I just need an NHL team :)

the good news for Houstonians is that we’ve moved past the notion that your franchise’s value is its stadium deal…ask Bud Adams how that turned out for him, because that was absolutely the prevailing wisdom behind his decision to relocate…no wait, he’s dead…ask his family how that worked out. The Titans franchise value doesn’t come close to the Texans because the Titans abandoned the market that provides the Texans its value. I think the owners of ALL of Houston’s pro sports franchises (even the Dynamo) get the value of their franchise is super locked up in the size and relative health of the market.

Tradition yeah they would, but its time to flip out some old blood with new

I feel one of GSW/Lakers will make it for star power purpose and a young new team will get the other

But I agree with you it is going to be difficult road, but at least they are jockeying for a play-in/off and not a top 4 pick as the case past 3 yrs

You don’t tank for three years to be a play in team. Tanking that long is for building a team that can win a championship. Don’t be impatient and throw it all away. Continue to build the right way. We are on a good path.

We're not making the playin unless we make a big trade before the deadline and we move Jalen and maybe Bari to the bench.

Jalen is just too inconsistent and Bari has been better of late but we could use an upgrade at his spot too with a better and consistent shooter.

I just don't see it happening because Lakers will 100% make a trade before the deadline and the refs will make sure Lebron's team makes the playoffs.

As much as the New York announcer is talking up Jalen I'm convinced they would love him there. Jalen and Oladipo for Brunson. You're welcome New York!
