https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/jan/15/texas-border-dispute-white-house-migrants-drowing I don't agree with Biden often but TX should have saved these immigrants from drowning.
It’s not even about agreeing with Biden it’s about having common decency but this is from an admin that told us to let grandma die for the economy…
Such a ridiculous, offensive lie... she saw illegal aliens and migrants and new that because they were wearing signs saying so...
So MTG is anti-TSA then I guess since apparently they just let anyone through security. MAGA Translation: I went to the airport and THERE WERE BROWN PEOPLE!!!!
Nevermind, TX didn't block the rescue attempt of the drowning victims and the White House is lying. Must be election season.
Must be. The statement was from Henry Cuellar, who is not part of the White House. He did not lie. Spoiler 3 individuals drowned after Texas had stated they would not grant access to Border Patrol, even in an emergency. The drownings had already occurred when Border Patrol requested physical access, which was denied. Other migrants were also in distress at that time, and they ultimately survived without assistance from Border Patrol since they were blocked from entering. “The only thing that we’re not doing is we’re not shooting people who come across the border because, of course, the Biden administration would charge us with murder,” Abbott said. Spoiler This was an incredibly reckless comment from someone with every reason to know better. In 2019, after a xenophobic and racist Texan killed 23 people at a Walmart in the border city of El Paso, Abbott acknowledged that his own anti-immigrant rhetoric needed to be toned down—literally deploying the cliche “mistakes were made.” Long before this month, the governor broke that pledge to dial down his language, but his comment to Loesch confirms that his fleeting concern is dead and buried. He’ll keep painting asylum-seekers as invaders, and if the implication that Texans might be justified in taking up arms against such an “invasion” wasn’t clear enough, he’ll highlight and underscore it too.
The speaker of the house... not working with Democrats in the House. Not working with the U.S. Senate. Not working with the President of the United States. He is working with donald trump though...
Here's the thing. Being undocumented is illegal. Mostly it's bad because greedy businesses hire cheap labor and these humans are being taken advantage of. Neither I nor anyone I personally know of has had any direct negative effect from illegal immigration. Illegal immigrants commit fewer violent crimes than natural born citizens, but more than legal immigrants. They can not vote in federal elections. A massive influx definitely strains the resources so there is another reason to want to reduce it. But even with these reasons, the outrage by many doesn't seem to match the outcome. We know that there has been a trend of undocumented workers paying taxes more than they take in services. We know they help reduce the cost of goods because of cheaper labor. I'm absolutely in favor of reducing or eliminating their number. I'm not in favor of separating families, letting people drown, die, not receive aid, etc. Asylum seekers are not necessarily the same as undocumented workers. We need an easier path to citizenship and legal work permits. We need more judges and personnel to quickly process asylum applications and send the greater than 90% of them that won't qualify.
@StupidMoniker you're okay with the opposing canidate for president negotiate a deal he wasnt voted in for or has any business being in? How can we fix the border when trump obviously doesn't a deal so he can use it as a issue obviously. This is why people tired of politics. We all know the border is a mess but Republicans don't want to fix ****. Same ole bullshit
Yes “the culture of life” that people like Abbott and Patrick push often takes a back seat to Ideology.
This goes to a point I’ve made in this thread and other threads. In engineering it’s basic knowledge that you just can’t increase the size of something and expect it to remain effective per unit of size or distance in the case of a wall. Just building a walll longer means you will sooner or later encounter different soils conditions so you can’t actually build each unit of length the same but effectiveness decreases as you encounter different conditions. As we’re seeing with the border wall that’s already been built is that some segments are built on more stable soil and some segments not. The ones that are built on less stable soil are falling down and by definition are less effective.
Yes? Pretty much every single bill in Congress has input from unelected people. Legislative consultants, union representatives, the Federalist society, NOW, whichever advocacy group or individual citizen even wants to talk to legislators about the legislation they want passed. Why would one individual be blocked from such consultation? The House already passed a bill. If they wanted to do something on the border, the Senate and President could pass the House bill and something would be done. There may eventually be a Senate bill. If they wanted to do something on the border, the House and President could then pass the Senate bill and something would be done. People don't just want to do something, they want to do the something that they support.
