Someone is going to have to start pointing out in actual games these egregious instances of tunnel vision from Cam. Yeah ive seen him miss some open teammates, but no more than other players who arent experienced playmakers. I thought it was overstated in college and i think its being overstated now.
Still remains true. Folks looking for assists clearly don’t understand what cam is out there to do. FVV has the ball in his hands all the time and add in sengun and other ball handlers yet folks expect cam to generate assists LOL. No when cam gets the ball it’s to score not pass. That’s what Ime has him doing and doing it damn well. Better than the starting guard next to FVV. Now that’s the funny part who is 19 years old LOL. Folks around here actually trying to tell themselves coach put Cam on the floor to be a playmaker. That tells you these same people think Ime is stupid bc that’s how it sounds
So no, you arent able to point out specific plays in real time? Cam receives the ball 11.6 times per game and he passes it 8.6 times per game. That means theres only about three times per game he catches the ball and no one else touches it after him. Cam is about average in terms of pass to assists as well. They dont give Cam the ball and ask him to run pick and roll or generate looks for teammates. Youre proving my point. Thats not "tunnel vision". Thats a lack of playmaking. Not the same thing. When he catches the ball hes usually shooting or driving and finishing or just giving it up and not forcing things. Tunnel vision is trying to create something and taking bad shots when you have teammates wide open. Just getting the ball and going. He's playing more of a role of play finisher than initiator.
I've seen ONE instance in a still image and when played in video form, it didn't support the narrative. The shots he takes are shots you want him to take. They are open shots that happen within the flow of the offense and are often drawn up to get that exact shot. He's shooting .509 from the floor and .380 from 3. That doesn't happen if he's taking bad shots. If he could hit FT's at better than 67% we'd be talking about how he has a chance to join the 50/40/90 club as a rookie .... I don't think people realize how significant his numbers are .....
Exactly. Its lazy anslysis and simply running with a narrative. Like the guy could catch two lobs on a fastbreak, catch and shoot a couple open threes and create another couple of shots for himself and people will be like he touched the ball 6 times with no assists? Huh?? Should he not shoot open shots or put himself in position to finish plays? The guy is scoring at an efficient high rate playing the role hes playing.
This. They aren't putting the ball in his hands and asking him to generate shots for others by running a pick and roll. He's being asked to finish that play as an off the ball player and he's doing a great job of it. Once the team defense catches up to the offense ....
The ultimate play finisher. Lowest assist percentage among qualified players 3rd Lowest : Gobert : 4.9% 2nd Lowest : Richards : 4.8% Lowest : Kessler : 4.4% Whitmore : 3.6%
Well, he's a SG/SF not a PG. No one needs him to get assists, they need him to score at an efficient rate when he gets the ball. Cam's TS% is 60.9% the guy the Rockets are foolishly starting at SG has a 52.9% TS% It's why I think everyone knows Cam SHOULD be starting at SG, but the Rockets don't want to admit they made a mistake just yet.
To Cam's credit his turnover percentage is extremely low at 8% which is almost half of what those guys are at.
Will never turn it over if you just shoot. Honestly I'm not saying it a a negative either. I'd rather he shoot than make braindead passes
Assist percentage is just another way of saying he doesnt get many assists which we already knew. Its just the percentage of field goals your teammates made that you assisted. But from the list you gave lets take the highest player which is Gobert and per 100 possessions he only averages . 7 more assists than Cam. And this is someone who if they are catching it outside of 3ft is probably passing it. Also someone that is heavily involved in the pick and roll.
Any player shooting 50%/40% has decent shot selection in my book and I'll live with a low assist rate.
I don't think thats lazy analysis I think you are just moving the goal post. You asked for instances of Cam tunnel vision but then when presented his low assist percentage suddenly you talk about him being a great play finisher. Lolwut? Those are two separate things you can both have tunnel vision and also be a great scorer ex. Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson etc. The reality is Cam does have tunnel vision, he doesn't see a shot he doesn't like and if you watched the loss against Bulls he chucked shots in OT instead of giving it to Sengun who was starting to go off. That was the main reason for the loss if Cam had the bball IQ to realize Sengun had the hot hand and made plays to get Sengun open the Rox would have won the game. Instead he kept asking for picks to free himself up and bricked mid range Js that were pretty costly. On the plus side even he does have tunnel vision Cam is a dangerous scorer and is extremely efficient scoring at 0.60%TS which means when he shoots it's almost always a bucket. Rox obv are aware of his tendency that's why they are using him off the bench and not playing him alongside Sengun. When they played the two Sengun just got wasted cuz all he was doing was setting picks to free up Cam who would take the shot every single time. What you want is for Cam to eventually balance scoring and passing and that would make him a triple threat and opponents wouldn't know how to guard him then. If all we want from Cam is a bench guy then yeah it's OK to let him chuck cuz he is crazy good at it. But if you eventually want him to be the Jalen Green replacement we all know he will be then I think he needs to learn how to play within NBA offenses. He is still 19 though so still has a lot of time to mature his game. Learning how to pass for a scorer is basically the difference between Joe Johnson and Jr Smith.
Though he's an elite finisher at a young age, Cam's got a lot to learn (20% of his close attempts and 7% of his dunks are blocked per 82 games.com). No surprises there. In my mind, the passing will come. He spaces the floor and gets into the sets that he's asked to run. Cam's very accurate when he wants to flip the ball to teammates. When you compare him to a non-passer like Gobert, the reality is that Gobert can't NBA level reads and passes. The skills don't exist as his overall agility is too slow. Over time, I think we'll see Cam be a better-than-average NBA passer. He just needs time on the court with teammates. I thought Cam was a forward coming out of college. He's not. He's going to grow into an incredible SG.
I don't care if he get ZERO assists if he scores effectively. His job is to score the ball first...he is doing that quite well. DD
I care. If teams know you aren’t going to pass, it makes it easy for them to crash you. He’ll never be more than a role player if he doesn’t learn to pass.
I remember why I had you on ignore. Horrible comprehension makes it impossible to have a dialogue. I already laid out how Tunnel vision doesn't necessarily correlate with assist numbers over and over again. If you can't comprehend that and think what I said has anything to do with his scoring (which was just an additional point), then I can't help you. But anyways, back in your cage you go.
