Everyone is a contender if you make the Playoffs. Also no point in not trying to win when our first pick is going to OKC. We are trying to win every game and we need a backup centre.
Man that would be great and he wouldn't cost much in trade. Only has 1.5 years on his contract although he makes $20m and $22m. Was opposed to acquiring someone this expensive early in the season, but we've gotten destroyed at backup C every night. Having Capela allows us to rest more and win that matchup handily, gives us a lob threat who understands the PnR really well. I think we could get it done for Landale and Tate. Expiring contracts, decent bench depth. Might have to throw in a couple of seconds. If we're giving up a first, it better be like top 20 protected. I could live with getting Olynyk since we're more offensively challenged than defensively challenged, but we really can't go a whole season and possible playoffs without a rim protector off the bench. We need more scoring, but there are untapped opportunities internally. Plus Cam is playing really well as 6th man.
I think we are at a place in the rebuild where Stone needs to be finding THE NEXT Capela via the draft, or picking up young prospects on the cheap. Not mortgaging off big chunks of our future to get a 10 year veteran Capela who will be making 22 million dollars in 2 seasons. I like Capela, and think he'd be a great fit. However not at his price point as a backup, and not if he's going to cost us future 1st round picks which we SORELY need.
You are right, ideally yes 1000% but we are not in an ideal situation. That said, I take Capela over Landale, Jeff Green, Holiday, Bullock, Tate, and even Amen now.......and maybe Green.
We also aren't in a horribly desperate position either. I mean are we supposed to be winning a title this year? If I was the GM (lol yeah yeah I know how this goes) the first thing I would do is offer Boban a nice salary as a player development/assistant coach so you can use his roster spot to bring in G-Leaguer after G-Leaguer bigs. Starting with maybe Darius Days first, or signing Kenneth Lofton. Give some looks on the cheap. If you give up anything see if you can get a team like the Celtics to give up one of their two 3rd/4th string 7 footers like Queta, or Kornet for one of those conditional 2nd rounders that will likely not pan out. There's also a ton of 7 footers in this draft as opposed to typical drafts in this day and age. Use the Boban/Jeenathan slots to take some swings on tall athletic prospects and see if you cannot find a Kevon Looney or Clint Capela. And for the love of god stop wasting the roster spots on guys like Boban who will never see a minute of court time. I LOVE Boban, but if you aren't going to play him ever, move him into a coaching role.
Uhmmm, I think the team is as desperate as the Owner is......to be honest....no idea how he feels. He has his 'Pray for Victor' outbursts which really sounded awfully desperate...... And then his iterations how he finds KPJ is his basketball son......that sounded really tragic as well. But I do think Udoka managed to calm his teets.....
Yes there's no need to give up any 1st round picks for him, although it might be acceptable to give up the upcoming 2024 Nets pick in this anemic draft.
I'd trade a first round pick, either our own or the Nets for Onyeka Okongwu. But I think the Hawks are planning to part with Capela and promote OO to be their starter.
