The only thing abbott doesn't want the Texas Guard to do is shooting people... so murdering suspected illegal immigrants (asylum seekers) is currently off the table?

Ignore below if you aren't interested in logical thinking, nuance, or solutions.

Migrants go through the Southern Border to seek asylum. Fed agencies such as CBP and HHS have funding from Congress to manage facilities, provide services, and address the needs of migrants arriving at the borders. These include processing centers and detention facilities distributed along the southern border states that have been set up over time (not months, but years to decades). HINT: they don't just pop up magically.

There is a surge of asylum seekers. The admin asks Congress for more funding to handle the surge, but Congress says no.

Republicans get a brilliant idea: don't fund the fed government to handle the surge, but instead, bus or fly some of them to cities that were never set up to handle the inflow of migrants. Of course, those cities without federal facilities designed and in place to handle migrants struggle. It's a brilliant political idea, but one that doesn't solve any issues; rather, it creates new ones.

But whatever the case, now that Democrats are politically reacting to Republicans on this issue, the Biden admin is working with Congress to propose changes to the law to address some of this. Let's see if Republicans are actually interested in doing that or continue to play politics.

Its BS peoples lives are used as political pawns. Its quite obvious the US can't handle an open border policy and by allowing everyone to claim asylum is essentially giving a free ticket for anyone to flow across the border. Its also blatantly obvious border states can't handle this. Then these faux self righteous sanctuary cities further turn it into a political bargaining chip.

If you want to call it logical thinking, accept both Democrats and Republicans only exist to keep themselves in power first and foremost. Neither can agree on anything simply because the other takes the opposite extreme. If either party gave a ****, they would make the process much simpler for legal immigration and work harder at making the lives of our neighbors south of us better so they do not have to go through extreme measures.

The US can handle a huge surge if given the funding and the right structure.

It's not an open border; that right there is a BS political slogan. Yes, anyone is allowed to ask for asylum (international law), but judges will make the decision to grant or not. The problem has been that there is not enough manpower to handle these cases quickly, among other issues such as overcrowded detention and able-bodied individuals not legally allowed to work. You can tackle this problem in multiple ways: more manpower, expanding detention, temporary work permits, quicker decisions on asylum, and/or making it harder to seek asylum.

I have said it before - people complain about this issue for decades, but when it comes to a solution, they walk away. The main reason they walk away isn't that there isn't a compromised solution, but because the extremes refuse to accept one. I fully expect, sadly, that Congressional House Republicans will reject any compromised legislation from the Senate.

Now that there is a proposal on the table (still in the works, so you can wait a bit), read up on it and see if you are supportive of what will eventually be a compromised proposal from the Senate. See if you are one of those who talk but walk away or talk but, while it's not perfect or to everyone's liking, believe it's better to do something than continue complaining.

EDIT: ps. Yes, it's complete BS to use people's lives as political pawns, but Republicans did achieve what they wanted politically (Democrats have shifted right on this issue). Now, let's hope that they are willing to actually address it.

"open door policy", "faux self righteous sanctuary cities"... wouldn't be better to lead with actually policy recommendations (eg easing legal immigration, working with Mexico and other Central and South American countries are actual things that can and should be done) instead of spouting right wing talking points?

The bipartisan border deal... of course, gaetz opposes it since he along with magas don't really want something done about the border. But will enough republicans act on getting something done?

And there you go, with Fox News leading the extremists who, of course, will reject anything that is a compromised deal to improve our broken immigration system.

Why is Biden allowing this weather to immigrate across our northern border with Canada?

Who would've known. They have ZERO intention of fixing the border and never did. They know they can fear monger with their white base @Astrodome @AroundTheWorld and it'll work every time.

Biden is literally proposing getting rid of assylm system at the border and hire thousands more agents but they have no intention to fix it. Called it long time ago

    Secure the Border Act of 2023 (H.R. 2) - GovTrack.us
The GOP controlled house already passed a bill that addresses immigration 8 months ago.
