Precisely. Cam’s best moments have come off of Sengun and Fred, but his minutes with our best creators are very limited. With bench units only Jeff Green is enhancing him, while Cam + Amen-run offense is Silas-level unwatchable. Cam needs to start, period.
That's because he has a 56% TS% this season AND he's a VERY good PG from a ball handling and shot creation standpoint AND he's one of the better defensive PG's in the league. When scoring is literally the only thing you can do on a basketball court, doing so with dogshit efficiency suggests you really can't even do that.
Last season, Jalen Green was the "engine" of the Rockets' offense. His usage rate was about 30%, like Paolo's, he averaged 22 ppg, like Paolo, and his efficiency was about the same as Paolo's. And let's not act like Paolo's some amazing playmaker -- he's averaging 4.9 assists per game. Good, not great, and certainly not comparable to FVV. You can be a little less efficient when you're averaging 8+ assists per game with a 5-to-1 TO to assist ration (Paolo's ratio is a dreadful 1.4 to 1). By the way, the Magic haven't exactly been lighting it up lately. They are 21-18 and have been losing at a healthy clip recently.
I didn't insinuate he was ready to replace JG, merely that he's earning more minutes. He's only 19 and will continue to adjust his game to the NBA. Although last night isn't a great example, he did contribute with the starters and then led the mop up team. Personally, I believe he's learning lessons on how to finish that JG is still struggling with. However, Cam's pro frame gives him an advantage that Green may never possess. I like both guys and think we need them playing together at some point in the future. If Amen can get a handle (see what I did there) on his game, those 3 give us some of the most dynamic athletes on the court at one time in the NBA. Pretty exciting future imo.
Cam was great on offense last night. He was disruptive at times on the defensive end, but is really lost on team defense. He has to get the defensive rotations down before he earns a lot of minutes. That being said, I think he will be a good defensive player if he keeps his head down and works on that aspect of his game.
Paolo is a plus defender, plus distributor and along with Franz runs that team. They don’t have a vet like Fvv keeping them afloat. Scoring isn’t all that he does, he does everything. Meanwhile Jabari has the shot diet of PJ Tucker, this is not comparable.
We are very lucky the NBA let this guy fall. Especially with Amen looking very questionable right now.
Yeah, some of that is fair, I was just talking about how FVV helps the team despite his less than optimal TS% I think Banchero would do a lot better if he was taking fewer or higher quality shots, he's really not very good as a distributor, but he's been in that role largely because they don't have a quality PG to do it. I think if Banchero had a FVV to help him out, his numbers would be a LOT better.
You realize he’s a power forward, not a point guard? That’s like comparing Sengun’s 2:1 assist to TO ratio to some average backup pg to prove he isn’t a great passer. It’s like you guys don’t ever watch the game and just reading off from a boxscore.
I don’t know why people keep bringing up Amen when it comes to Cam. Amen is a PG, pure and simple. He should come in when FVV is out and play the role he was meant for. Amen and Cam are perfect compliments to each other. Amen is getting play, because of his defensive acumen and the bench unit with Amen, Cam, and Tari is going to wreak havoc later this year when they all get healthy and the rookies gain more confidence. You will see.
You can stop with the insults. You’re the one who said he’s a “plus distributor.” Funny how you keep backtracking the moment someone calls you out. Here are the facts — Paolo is bottom 50ish in TS%, his 3.3 TOs per game put him in the bottom 10 (or perhaps top?) of the NBA, and he has one of the worst TO to assist ratios in the NBA. And his mediocre 22/7/4 line is not that impressive in general, much less when you put it in the context of his advanced stats. He’s nowhere near an All Star caliber player — he’s just the most recognizable face on a decent (and recently struggling) team. By the way, this whole conversation is about potential. Banchero’s big plus was that he basically had a NBA ready body and game. It’s not surprising he’s hit the ground running fairly well. I just don’t think he’s ceiling is very high, and I don’t think he’ll ever been efficient enough to be a true star. That’s not the case with Bari — his shot and defense alone, combined with the fact that he can develop is frame a lot give him higher upside.
Best thing about Cam (so far) is that I BELIEVE that he will never ever hesitate or tremble under pressure. He will do the exact same thing in the Finals 7th game last 2 minutes and the absolute garbage time. Because he is a psycho. In a good way, I guess.
Agree and believe that's why Ime's rotation lately has been including Bullock more--savvy vet who knows how to play team defense and can hit 3s. Cam however is a more rounded scorer and can put pressure on a defense and also make some wow defensive plays. I trust Ime to keep developing Cam and give him opportunities to contribute while also honing his game on both ends of the court.
Nonsense. We know more than the coach. I mean, we watch the games and can even rewind and pause the broadcast. #FireUdoka
Amen at this time is nothing but a lottery ticket we hope we can cash in on some time in the future. He has a long way to go. We all hope he can get there.
Cam is tough. We really need that. He missed a lot of time with injuries before he turned pro. He will be inconsistent, however his energy is good most of the time.
