He is more like a wing facilitator than a guard facilitator. This team really lacks guard facilitation.
"Scoring efficiency wasn't great but the playmaking flashes are the real story. Some really good passes from Jalen." No. Continued poor scoring efficiency is the real story. Its the real story because this is what the Rockets need of him most. All this, he is slightly better at this or that when it comes to defense, passing or whatever has gotten tiring for me. He is a shooting guard that doesnt shoot well. That is the story. As far as projecting what he may be some day, nobody knows. Its all speculation. What I do know is that currently, he isnt what the Rockets need at the 2. What he is numero uno at is being the most controversial player on the roster.
Brother, this is an absurd take. The HC number one priority was to improve his defense, effort, passing and make him a more well rounded player. That's been done and continuing. On his scoring the HC says he just needs gradual improvement and to learn how teams are defending him now that he's a known commodity. Since game 30 (roughly when Brooks went down) he has been shooting over 41% from 3PT range buddy. What do you want??? He caught fire from 3pt range for the stretch you're talking about. You're mad that he's not stepped up his shooting? Were you expecting that within the same two month period Jalen would improve defense, effort, passing AND scoring efficiency? If that's what you were expecting, don't put it on Jalen that you had crazy expectations. That was never going to happen and Udoka would tell you that himself if you asked. That's not realistic at all. No one improves everything in 2 months time. First it's "he can score but he can't do anything else" and then it's "he's improved his all around game but all we need is for him to score". What? Further, I find it amazing that when we were winning it was in spite of Jalen and now we're losing because of Jalen? Don't you think that if he's the reason we're losing now then he's probably a reason we were winning then? We lost our top two defenders who are both good shooters to injury. We're losing because we're not that good without them. Starting a shoot-first offense-only rookie SG - no matter how talented - is not going to make up for losing our best defender and highest impact player both of whom can shoot. Development doesn't speed up because someone got injured. Not for Jalen nor Cam. Best to take a step back, these takes are full of holes.
I dont care what he was before no more than I care about what his future projections are. A care about the team I see, right now, and what I view as its strengths and weaknesses. Certainly Jalen isnt the only reason we are losing, he never has been. But IMO, he contributes more to it than the other guys I see on the floor, minus Landale and sometimes Holiday. Your view seems to depend on what he was, and how he has improved on that. OK, maybe your take has validity, but I still in large disagree with it, but I wont go so far as to say its absurd.
Hey, I don't say the word absurd carelessly here. We agree on many things basketball related and I was shocked at how out of character this was. The fact that you don't care about those things does not matter. What matters is Green is achieving what the coaching staff wants him to achieve, in the order they want it, on a timeline they're comfortable with. They could have worked on his scoring first and then we'd be out here talking about "what else does he do other than score?". Again, there was absolutely no chance that he would improve every single facet of the game within 2 months. Imagine Udoka asking Jalen to improve everything around his scoring because those other things are SO important, Jalen does it and then he gets benched for someone who just scores, has tunnel vision and sucks at team defense? Of course Udoka is not going to bench Jalen for that. Of course Cam has to improve his all round game too. The one that really shocked me is you said Jalen apologists cant see the we're losing because of Jalen's shooting. That's during an 8 game stretch where he's shooting 41% from 3 - almost same as Cam on double the volume and against starters. Surely you understand why this would be an infuriating opinion? Sorry but this was a bad take. Peace and love as a rockets fan anyway.
In January, his 3pt% is 33.9% including 6 for his last 24. His inconsistency is my biggest gripe with him. The truth can be infuriating to be sure. https://www.espn.com/nba/player/gamelog/_/id/4437244/jalen-green
lets not forget how young this dude is, and he's able to hit deep 3s like eric gordon. Tracy mcgrady in year 3 wasn't the offensive juggarnaut he became in orlando. Lebron couldn't shoot at first either. I think we have to be patient with jalen and hope for the best. The worst case scenario is sending him to another team where he then becomes a 38 percent 3 point shooter.
I actually think he’s going to end up being a good player. Probably an All-Star game or two but I fear that this will be in his sixth or seventh year. he just doesn’t make enough shots at this point. Last night is a great example. He played amazing in the first half. And even in the second half he was not terrible, but he just didn’t make enough shots to have it be a solid game overall. Id love to trade Green+ an asset for Ivey because we really need somebody with that skill set.
