Am I the only one that cringes at Craig Akerman's announcing? He over exaggerates any play, it gets a bit annoying. Also Hollins is a boring version of Drexler. I wish we revamped the announcers...how I miss the days of Bill and Calvin.
I thought this was going to be about his "You can be thirsty on the court and off the court. " comment. lol
I like them both fine. I've heard better and I've heard worse. I think they will both improve with some more experience.
Hollins’ Xs and Os analysis is underrated. Probably because he doesn’t make a big deal about it, like it’s understood. In just 2 1/2 seasons, he has provided names for mores plays, coverages, etc than all other rockets color men … combined!
If we are talking about over exaggerating…it’s Hollins. He seems like a nice guy, and I agree that he’s really good breaking down the fundamentals, but he says some wild things. I’m talking declarative statements about players or teams that are just over the top. It happens at least once a game.
I used to like Ackerman, he's terrible now. Hollins has always been terrible. No chemistry, no feel. We need better broadcasters
I think Craig is fine. Ryan Hollins is annoying, he doesn't seem to know the rules. You guys need to stop living in the past. Bill and Calvin announcing together is not happening anymore, get over it.
Ackerman makes me miss Bill Worrell. To be fair, he may just need to grow into the role a bit more, he's relatively inexperienced. He's not awful, he's just nowhere near as good as some of the best announcers. Hollins though... Hollins has gotta go for sure.
They are both bad. The Rockets have a real team now. No need for fake enthusiasm and grating over-the-top verbal barrages of cliches and oft-repeated catch-phrases that walk over the plays and highlights. These two guys are still enthusiastic rookies who don't have a clue about how to play the announcing game at a basic NBA level. The team is beyond them now and as fans, we deserve better. Ask yourself: Is anyone going to come in and poach Hollins or Ackerman? Are they sought after by the networks for a higher visibility job? The answer is an emphatic no. I could maybe tolerate Ackerman with another color guy, but Hollins has to go. Surely someone in the owner's family or front office sees that too?
I'm fine with Ackerman. He's solid IMO. I really disliked Ryan Hollins when he first started, but by his second year, he clearly improved and now I'm neutral on him. Rest assured folks, while he ain't the best, he is far from the worst commentator in the NBA.
