He hasn’t even played half a season and people are already giving up on him. People have no patience anymore when it comes to young players. A lot of posters here were enamored with Scoot and he’s shooting poorly too. Amen is actually finishing well in the paint. Guards takes time to get better. Give him time. If he’s still bad in year 3 then yeah talk all the **** you want.
I think the Rockets need to give him to the end of next year to get that shot straightened out but if it's still busted they need to blow up the backcourt dream of two hyper athletic guys who can't shoot straight, it's just stupid, they will never win a championship.
That's all well and good but the Rockets didn't tank for 3 straight years to go the WCF. They tanked to have a shot at building a team to win a Championship. Non-shooting starters end that goal when the defense collapses on the players that actually score and leave the non-shooter open to waste the possession. They won't even be sniffing the WCF if Jalen and Amen don't make serious leaps in their all around shooting percentages.
James Harden got to the WCF and that was the farthest he went.... And that version of Harden was light years ahead of anybody on this roster......given that there is no dynasty at the moment in NBA.....
There are a lot of young, knee-jerk posters here who want the Rockets to operate like an NBA2K video game. They litter these threads with junk either loving or hating players. The players they condemn get very short leashes. It worse than Reddit.
I've been watching basketball and following the Rockets for over 30 years. There's a time to believe the hype and a time to ignore it and trust your eyes and your experience. Jalen and Amen are not going to work long term. They might have some flashy moments but it won't lead to wins. People around here are starting to open their eyes and realize they've been peddling fools gold and they're voicing their opinions about it.
Jalen is closer to a finished product. His limitations have been on display going on 3 years. That doesn't mean he's "fool's gold". Except for a few diehards who don't even post that often, everyone realizes he's no future superstar. Now it's reversed to where detractors have become the jerks who loudly celebrate his shortcomings and destroy objective discussion. Amen hasn't even played 20 games. If you already think they should toss him aside, I'm sorry, you fit the bill of a knee-jerk. If you endlessly criticize him in an attempt to convince 100% of people to agree with you, you are a forum jerk. Grow up and get used to the fact he'll be with the Rockets 3 cheap years and his effectiveness will determine his playing time. Simple as that. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I believe we should want the Rockets young players to succeed and improve. It's really obvious that is not the case for a lot of vociferous posters here. The way some people gave up on Jabari last year was disgusting.
I said if by the end of next year his shot is not significantly better, and by significantly, I mean like 150% better on 3's the Rockets need to move on from the high flying duo thing because it won't win them anything. Same goes with Jalen but his cut off needs to be this year. There's no way you can tell me he deserves to be starting on any team in this league. He shouldn't even be 6th man at this point. 8th or 9th, I'll give you that, but he's been horrible and getting worse.
I am not sure you are old fashioned but I think one fan cannot be responsible for rooting for every player, that is just too strenuous for the mind......
Honestly I have this wild theory that the current form of Amens is a torn down and rebuilt version of how he used to shoot. I think everyones body mechanics are different, so are their eye sight, hand eye coordination etc. I think a player needs to have a form that they are comfortable with, and then tweak it for accuracy. I don't think Lavar is totally incorrect, Lamelo was able to tweak his two handed chest pass of a shot to work, Lonzos "reformed" shot is still kinda based on his jagged shot. I think all these shooting changes Amen and Ausar put into at OTE probably made them adopt this weird ass form now, they are trying to imitate their shooting coaches from, but that never translates from person to person.
It's about rooting for the team more than anything else. Secondly, I'm speaking of the young players drafted by the Rockets, not the one-year rentals nobody really cares about. Regardless, the amount of repetitive vitriol dumped on guys like Jalen and Amen by a small segment here is just ridiculous! I get it: Some people enjoy scapegoating and (I guess) that overlaps with those who get off on repeatedly ranting the same stuff day-after-day-after-day about players they hate.
I won't call you old fashioned that is, you do you. What I meant is the normal fan has no obligation to root for any draft failures of the Front Office.... It is a good endeavor but it is not within our control how good or bad a draft pick can become, pardon, sir.... If it is a hit draft pick, no doubt, we all should root for him..... Okay, calling out fans for being too obnoxious, I can understand.
Like they say, Honor is hard Won (Honor of the prospect player) But good deeds will be rewarded........
Not a Libra but I do see both sides of the same Coin. The Scale always tips to one end.....it is fleeting, the next thing Amen drops a 30 point game and everyone is high on him. Like with Jalen Green, he was not the perfect for this team either but they picked him any way.
