Jalen Green lowered everyone's expectations to such an extent that people really believe he had a fantastic game when he isn't an absolute disaster on the court.
We didn't lose because Cam missed shots. We lost because on three straight possessions he blew defensive assignments, which is the largest reason he didn't get any burn early in the year. *Giving easy and-1 to Lavine* *Giving easy pull up 3 to Lavine* *Missing rotation that leaves Coby White wide open for 3* Cam is a dynamic, undeniable offensive threat but he is not a winning player currently, much akin to our youth players the last 2 years. And that is totally okay but ya'll need to make up your mind when winning is important because right now it changes entirely depending on which player you support.
His shooting still isn't where it needs to be, but there were some promising signs. He was passing and seeing the floor much better. 8 assists to 2 turnovers. Not going to see one game as a sign of transformation, but it was a baby step in the right direction. If he can provide some value with his passing and limit the turnovers, at least he won't be a total negative when the shot isn't falling.
Good post. I think you are probably the most level headed of the people that still believe in Jalen. I agree with where our difference of opinion lies. I actually still root for Jalen and get excited when he does good things, but I just don't believe in him. I get on him a lot on here because I just see him as our weakest link and I struggle to see this team becoming a top tier team with Jalen as the starting SG. I'm actually ok with Jalen and Cam playing together for stretches and if it's one or the other, go with the hot hand. I agree Cam's playmaking needs to improve a lot. That's kind of why I'd like to see him continue to get real minutes. I think he's shown some improvement in that area since summer league to where he is now. We'll see what happens.
I agree; this was one of his better games this season, and I'm glad he's done a good job playmaking recently, but if he can't score efficiently and consistently, his playmaking doesn't mean anything. You can always find better playmakers than Jalen Green. I mean nobody would care about Alpi's slight improvement on defense if he wasn't posting big numbers on the other end, because you can always find better defenders than Sengun.
Yeah, that's why I said his shooting wasn't good enough. He has to become a reliable jump shooter, nothing else works if he can't at least knock down shots.
