I’m glad Jabari is starting to come around, I’m happy to have him on the team. But… the draft discourse around Paolo vs Jabari just shows that maybe some people need to stick to their day jobs that don’t include evaluating basketball talent, especially when some of the people who preferred Jabari were the same ones who thought Sengun wasn’t worth the time.

All things considered. Jabari still has a higher true shooting %. More rebounds and blocks in less minutes. He will never obviously be the creator Paolo is but he will be a better defender and shooter.

All things were not considered. Ts% is meaningless if you don’t consider the difference in types of shots each get. Paolo’s role isn’t that of a 3 and d role player, he is their franchise player. It would be like comparing the ts% of Sengun vs Deandre Jordan and thinking Jordan is a more efficient scorer.

Thanks, that is still making Paolo the star player because he is carrying the load .....

This reminds of the discussion, I had and I was confused with myself.....

Klay Thompson is one of the best shooters and a 2nd Option but he will never compare to Harden because he never got to be the Man and first option......

    Unfortunately roles do matter.

Yes. I compared him to Klay before he was drafted myself. Have seen it said by others as well. I think Jabari if he improves is the perfect player that does not need the ball and still dominates. If you had Paolo Cade and Sengun maybe that would work better. Not what I envisioned though wanting Jabari as a whole team like a puzzle. Time will tell and Jabari will need someone to follow. If he does get that person he will do great in my humble opinion.

That is why I am not comparing 2nd and 3rd options to franchise players no more......there is nobody cutting them slack for carrying a team even with less efficiency doing so.....

Banchero's playmaking skills will make him undoubtedly a star and bully ball will take him far....

He’s good. I’d still want Chet over him, then Jabari. They pair better with Alp

It got me thinking. (This is not necessarily about Banchero.)

Would you rather have a second rate franchise player (e.g. Lillard), or a top rate second option (e.g. Klay)? Which one is easier to obtain?

This is a real question. No hidden agenda.

Or is ultimately the variable of how unique a player is extremely important as well?

It all depends on how much easier it is to obtain the first option or the 2nd rate sniper.......

In general the Lakers do whatever they want....

    • For the Lakers obtaining the first option is easier due to their clout and presence, for a franchise like the Grizzlies obtaining the first option is much harder.

    • The Lakers can get a Shaq level player, a Lebron level player much easier than other franchises.....they have a harder time coming up with a trade for Anthony Davis.....

    • It takes lots of time for the Grizz to get someone like Ja Morant.

This was why I wanted Smith instead of Banchero. At the time I didn't think Banchero would be a true superstar, and having a non superstar best player will lead to mediocrity (see Atlanta, Portland with lillard, New Orleans with Davis etc). On top of that I expected Green and Sengun to be our primary offensive players, So I wanted a defensive player next to them. If we had drafted Banchero I guarantee you Sengun would have been traded away.

Yep, he might be a fringe superstar but his game would work in the end......

He might even become a True Superstar just because LBJ, Harden, Durant, Curry, Lillard are all retiring soon and the younger superstars like Morant and Trae Young IMHO are not that good.....

Bully Game? 7- 8 Assist Per Game? That is pretty good. Giannis/LBJ proved bully game works every time, not pretty.

Sengun + Banchero would have been unstoppable.

Other than a pretty big dip in 3FG% this season(which feels like an anomaly based on his previous years and his FT%….dude can clearly shoot) I love everything about Wagners game. Would be nice to have him on our team some day.

Jabari Smith Jr should thank his lucky stars he wasn't drafted #1 overall.

As author of the OP, I was really bummed when we didn’t get Paolo. But at this point, I am actually pretty happy with how everything has worked out. Think Banchero is a good player but I think that Smith is going to catch him down the line and be more effective as far as overall positive impact.

Banchero would have been a so so player in the wake of the KGs, Duncans, Boshs, Dirks.....

But it should be easy to rule next to the Wembys and Chets. This era is just so not difficult.
