Man, I would love it if we could go battle red Saturday. I don't know the uniform rules for playoffs - I am surprised at how regulated this stuff is. Even if it's with the blue helmet, we have an unexpected home playoff game, let's shake this up man!
I honestly can't remember the last time, if ever, a team has worn their "alternates" in the playoffs.
Yeah, but you've got to ask yourself what advertisers are going to think when their viewership comes in way beneath expectations when they paid for their add time.
Our first playoff game, if I remember correctly, was white/white. That's why I see that as a good possibility. And Will Anderson Jr will do his best rookie JJ Watt impression and get an INT and run it in for a TD.
Actually we did not wear white/white that game, I'm remembering wrong. But the Will Anderson part I standby!!!
What advertisers? Subscription-based streamers are ad-free or the ads will all be for NBC shows or entities owned by NBC's parent company(ies), like the Sheinhardt Wig Corporation.
Nah it was navy on white against Cincy who were in their normal away. Can't get the JJ pick 6 out of my head
All home playoff games... 2011: navy/navy/white 2012: all navy 2015: all navy 2017: navy/navy/white 2019: navy/navy/white 2020: all navy
The ultimate trap game of any sports for any NFL fans not going for the Texans are writing Browns to the next game. Flacco story, great defense and Dawg pound against a team with a history of @#$@#$. Don't let anyone know we will have an ear busting arena.
They do the same thing with the English Premier League. What would normally be considered the game of the week is almost always exclusively on Peacock.
This isn’t The Premier League. This is The NFL Playoffs in America. No doubt, soccer’s popularity is continuing to rise in this country, but it can’t hold a candle to the ratings for NFL games (and if you don’t believe that, look up the recently published lists of most watched TV in The States last year which was almost exclusively 20+ NFL broadcasts). So I can see them getting a way with putting The Premier League game of the week on streaming only, but The NFL?………not so much. And I’ll double down on my statement that I doubt advertisers who paid the bill are very excited about losing this weekend’s top playoff game to a streaming service. I see why NBC/NFL might want to grow the streaming service, but I can’t see why advertisers would go for it.
I wasn't comparing the 2 audiences. Just making a point that there is precedence. Do you honestly think I'm not aware that significantly more people in the United States watch the NFL than Saturday/Sunday morning EPL games? Universal wants people to subscribe to their service. Thursday night football viewership (exclusively on Amazon) was up 24% this year, averaging nearly 12 million viewers per week. While still less than the average NFL game (17 million), it's still a very significant amount of eyes that advertisers will pay for. And those are regular season games...not the likely top game of the Wild Card round. They know they'll have a captive audience and they're taking advantage of it.
They'll be in Detroit on Sunday (unless they're somehow doing two games in two nights in two different cities). Given last night's on-air desperate "begging" by NBC (Collinsworth - "you have a week to subscribe... just do it! and if you're old like me, ask your kids to do it!") and the overall backlash from twitter and national media members on how embarrassing this looks, will be interesting to see if this continues to be a fixture in future playoff years. I'm all for optimizing streaming. Its how most content will be consumed eventually, and I like having the option to watch all things mobile if possible. But forced "exclusivity" is the opposite of what the spirit of increasing access to all is. Should have as many options to watch all games as much as possible. Have streaming... but also have conventional backup options as well until its evident that most are just using the streaming options available.
They've never faced CJ Stroud. Its hard to beat any NFL team two times in a row. They took this past week "off" against Cincy since they were locked in to the 5 seed... and got trounced. While all teams would favor "health/rest" over rust, the Browns were sorta clicking in a way that rest may actually derail some of their momentum.
That logic didn't work so well last time they traveled to Houston. Hoping there will be some law of averages playing out this Saturday.
