Forgive me for wanting the Next level rather than just matching SF. It's not like they're undefeated.
They're the best team in the NFL when healthy. No way you would want to be close to that. BTW, There's not a Kittle in this draft. Maybe Bowers but he will be long gone before the Texans pick.
And you want to BEAT the Best, not just match up with them in the near future. Beware of setting the goal at reaching a super bowl rather than winning a super bowl. See Buffalo and four straight Super Bowl Losses.
Who said anything about this? I want to have the best talent that fits this offense and defense. The 49ers are the best and most talented that run the scheme the Texans run. I'm ok with matching or hopefully surpassing them in talent. If Ryans/Caserio can do this I'm betting they can win championships. Right now Ryans is just trying to get the guys to play hard while he tries to raise the talent level on both sides of the ball. I think setting a goal of becoming a team like the 49ers is a good and achievable goal.
You can scheme and account for known weak points as the Texans have done for most of the year minus some stubborn periods in the run game. I’m not talking down on any of our young guys merely stating that if I can improve the C with an experienced zone C I’m doing it. That is the most important guy on the line and even more in the ZBS. I’m not swapping out Patterson for another young C in my thought process at all. Safety is suddenly a glaring area of need or are we going to hope Pitre bounces back too? We have a small window here we owe it to ourselves to go all in and upgrade any position if the incoming player is better than what we have.
I view Scruggs as part of the starting 5. I would prefer a veteran C, but if Patterson hits camp prepped and ready to improve on his rookie campaign I’m here for that too there is no ill will just a fan preference. CJ just had one of the best rookie campaigns in history. You know who needs a WR? Bryce Young. CJ throws to spots. The offense creates openings all over the place. We are not devoid of talent in the WR room as we are in other places. WR is the deepest positional group in this draft. I totally understand falling in love with your guys in a draft and wanting them to land here and maybe Leggett ends up here and shines - i wouldn’t be upset about it. I think Nico and Tank will swallow up most of the receptions anyway and using a 1st round pick on a 3rd option just doesn’t feel like addressing true areas of weakness with such an important pick. You could get a WR in the 2-3rd based on value and still wind up with a really nice player there. I’m not spending much money on any RB. It’s unnecessary and hinders the team moving forward. It’s all good that we don’t see things the same that’s fandom. At least we can kick around ideas without getting ugly - appreciate that!
My reasoning with Van Pran is he's supposed to be a top level C used to C while Scruggs actually has played more guard than center. I want both OL and offensive weapons, but the drop off in quality may be less glaring for the offensive weapons. The same holds true for safeties dropping off faster than DTs in this draft.
Defensive secondary is my primary target, either thru FA or draft. Unfortunately, I hear this is a poor draft for safeties. I think another weapon for CJ would be nice. DT would be good, but I think if we re-sign Greenard we will be ok. I think our lack of pressure is more due to scheme than personnel Collins and Rankins are both pretty good, but we are too predictable and should blitz more. I also am concerned with Sweat’s physical conditioning. For those that want him, I think he will be a bust.
Depending on if we can bring Cashman back or not, I'd like to focus more on defense in the draft, DT, safety and LB (but probably less-so if Cashman gets extended). Then maybe TE and whoever they think is the best player. I agree with those that don't think WR is a big area of weakness (though the health thing does scare me). One thing that always strikes me everytime I watch the 49ers play is their linebackers flying all over the place, making plays. Maybe it is realistic to hope for a Fred Warner but maybe a Greenlaw that isn't quite so dirty? I don't think To'oTo'o is that guy.
O for sure, I definitely appreciate some different views as it gets me to think about things I wasn’t before. Confirmation bias is real and usually hurts more than it helps. While I agree Nico and Dell will take most of the targets, I think 2 things: 1. After Nico and Dell we are void of any real talent. Which becomes and issue when both Nico and Dell missed multiple games and we struggled on offense in those. 2. Our red zone offense has been pretty bad. When teams hone in on Nico/Schultz, no one else makes things happen. A powerful pass catching back like saquon and another large, quick WR like Legette (and Brian Thomas after that) would help with both problems. I think the OLine needs time but also we can’t afford to put more resources into it, maaaybe a FA. Need to focus on DLine (I like our LB’s) and I agree with you we should be looking into Safety as well. Cooper Dejean being able to play both would be nice. Dream scenario: All our money on: saquon or evans / Chris jones or Hunter / Schultz / maybe greenard. draft Cooper Dejean and a RB if we get evans. Draft Legette and best DB available if we get saquon. Then BPA after that. *dream scenario does not likely happen, but I wanted to jot it down haha*
I was going to start a new thread but decided to put it in this one. I thank and appreciate all the players that put their bodies on the lines this year, got hurt and cannot play in the playoffs. Some can come back and play in the playoffs and some cannot. I know they're happy because they are a part of this team still. Just wanted to show some love! 1. Tank Dell 2. Jarrett Patterson 3. Titus Howard 4.Scott Quessenberry 5. Jimmy Ward 6. T. Thomas 7. Kenyon Green 8. Hassan Ridgeway 9. Dylan Horton 10. MJ Stewart 11. Kendrick Green 12. Eric Murray Jonathan Greenard Noah Brown Robert Woods Shaq Griffin It's wild to think about how many players contributed this season but got hurt. I know I'm missing a few. I respect what we all did this year!
Old man Hughes with the most critical sequence in the game. He rope-a-dope their running game. Need him healthy
There’s satisfaction pulling for a team filled with young cornerstone and seeing the fruits of the development. Future is bright Excitement is palpable
