Skill and talent are the things that almost every single person has a different definition of. The way different people understand what they are, is the source of many disagreements.
Big guys who don’t create their own shot and essentially only score in the paint are expected to have higher TS%, not just all big men period. That was not Yao Ming. Yao had a high TS% relative to the league because he was great in the post, great from midrange relative to the league and he was absolutely money from the FT line. He had unbelievable shooting touch for a player of any size. These are by FAR the main reasons his TS% was so high, not height. Shawn Bradley and Manute Bol weren’t out there scoring efficiently in their days. I have zero interest in debating who is a better talent. Or debating weird hypotheticals (if Yao was only 6’11”). Yao was great. Sengun is on his way to being great. And no one you have debated with on these last few pages has said otherwise. One person merely pointed out that comparing their TS% was misleading because of the eras. He didn’t say Yao had a much better TS% relative to the league therefor he is and always will be far superior to Sengun in every way. That was never said. My only interest was pointing out how wrong you were in your assessment of Yao Ming and the way he played. He played nothing like Dwight or Shaq or Claxton or Zubac or Gobert. Yao had a steady diet of shot attempts in the least efficient area of the court and managed to score at an overall high efficiency because he was damn good.
I already told you that the reason why i put them in same category you are still acting like i said Yao was a giant bum like Poeltl. Yao was clearly talented even a blind man could tell. I was baffled by that weird %9 vs %4 ts comparison as if Yao's height didn't play any role in that lol. That's beyond dumb. Yao was talented but not that talented to have %9 true shooting over other centers. At least 6% of it was because of his height. For 2 years people said Sengun was undersized, he was only 6'9 had only 7'1 wingspan, how could he shoot over other centers or block their shots? But yea let's not attribute any of Yao's success to his size sshhhh
How do you even respond to a statement like “at least 6% of it was because of his height” A number pulled out of thin air based on nothing.
Man why the hell would you say that about a beloved retired Rockets and narrow his ability down to "because he's tall"? I'm loving Sengun and he'll also become a beloved retired Rockets someday, so don't fcking ruin it.
It was a guess. Better than ignoring him being 6 inches taller than anyone on the court which is the dumbest thing ever. Yea his TS% was 9% higher than average because he was a such a sniper.
I don't understand why you think height is some kind of disqualifier. You don't get less points for being taller or more points for being shorter. This is one of the weirdest arguments I've ever seen anyone make.
I don't understand why you think he thinks. I apologize to all the Rockets fans for disrespecting a Rockets legend on his behalf. I'm a SOF, and even i have had him on my ignore list for a long time.
Didn't say it was a disqualifier. Wemby will dominate everyone because he is tall and he can move and everybody acknowledges it. It's not his talent that will seperate him from others and i said Yao's TS% being abnormally higher than other centers in his era was more about his size than his skillset. They got offended behalf of Yao. I'm pretty sure if you ask him why his TS% was abnormally high he would tell you that because he was tall.
@AroundTheWorld I have to formally eat crow while I’m logged in. I had my doubts after Silas held this guy back and he was buddies with Jalen (thankfully not as close as jaygup), but Sengun is a championship level player. I sure am glad you were right.
Lol dude I don't care what you say about Yao, you can say whatever you want about him. Take Yao out of the conversation - I'm offended by your claim that we must address height when we are talking about how good players are, and we should adjust our opinions based on it. Like Sengun should get bonus points for doing it at 6'11 instead of 7'4. So what? This is sports dude, physical attributes are part of it. Jordan wouldn't be the goat if he was 6'0 instead of 6'6. Giannis would be working at McDonalds if he was 5'8. Curry would have 10 championships if he had Lebrons size/athleticism. Who cares?
Yao convo getting boring, new one: Hakeem is Co-GOAT just cuz he was incredibly athletic, had high IQ and invented the best post moves ever. Otherwise he was a scrub.
