Jalen is only faster, and not by a lot, Cam is a better player in almost every way at 19 than Jalen is at 22. DD
The Rockets have a boatload of young talent, but in many ways Whitmore is the most intriguing. Sengun is obviously the best at his position. Smith is coming along, excellent defender and rebounder, and can explode for points at any moment. I love Tari, incredible motor. Jalen has skills and Thompson is an excellent passer and ball handler. But, Whitmore has the prototypical NBA body, a sweet shot, and a terrifying approach to the basket. Longterm, he may have the biggest upside of them all. His combination of ruggedness and skills are truly impressive.
Biggest thing to me is that Cam seems to be a better shooter than Jalen (small sample size), particularly in catch-and-shoot situations. With Jalen, it often almost seems like he is better at converting very difficult shots, rather than open ones.
https://www.nbadraft.net/players/cam-whitmore/ 3rd rated SF coming into the draft his college coach thinks he is built for the NBA game. DD
Jalen can jump high, has more hang time and is more nimble. Doesn't mean that Cam isn't going to be a better player, just that their skill sets are not the same.
Cam is the better player now.....and it isn't close. If Cam was starting he would be averaging a lot more points and on higher efficiency than Jalen - it is just a matter of time. DD
Not sure why you're trying to make it a competition, we got both. I'll let Ime decide who needs to be starting and who needs to come off the bench.
Problem is he got small hand so he can’t never seems to able to hold the ball with the hang time he got.
I don't think Slam is going back to the G-League. His presence will grow... much to the horror of opposing teams.
After the way Udoka praised him in the last game I hope he isn't sent down again. He deserves to be with the main squad.
I'm very high on Cam, but I just don't see where he gets minutes with a healthy roster unless it's as 2 guard with Jalen and Holiday giving up time. At the 3 you have Brooks and Tari At the 4 you have Jabari, Tari and Green. Then there's Swiss Army Knife Tate who can play 1-4 effectively and even smallball 5 in some situations. I know a lot of people want to trade him to open up minutes for Cam / Amen but he's just such a valuable player, he makes winning plays even if they don't always show up in the stat sheet - That's why Udoka plays him. I'd rather not see Reggie Bullock play another minute - ship him out with Landale and Oladipo. Maybe Green breaks a fingernail and misses a few games and Cam gives him the Wally Pipp treatment.
Yeah it’s not good, not that he doesn’t have the tools but he’s playing streetball defense right now and needs a ton of coaching
His Defense is a strength, his one on one defense, he does drift too much into passing lanes but that clears up with playing time he is better than Green in every single way right now. DD
Why should he be sent down.....I do not get the mechanics.....even if he does not make the 12 man roster or whatever he can still be in the reserve list.....
If Udoka is going to give him consistent minutes, it will likely be taken from Tate and Green. Bari, Tari, and Dillion are too important in the rotation. Cam is not a PG, so he's not going to get Holiday's time. That leaves Green and Tate. Bullock will stay on the bench unless there are injuries. But my guess is that Cam will only get spot minutes once Eason and Brooks come back.
Cam is inevitable. But once he actually learns the game…STAR. I just hope he’s mature enough to listen and put in the work. He’s a hell of an ace prospect to have in our back pocket. DO NOT TRADE!
His college coach bad mouthed him to a number of teams. His college coach also is awful - his execution is terrible. His players don’t get better. Villanova was literally the worst possible fit for Cam.
