definitely want to trade the pick, the question is when. before or after the lottery? on the eve of the draft? right now while the Nets are in the lottery?
Personally I'm not a fan of the 2024 draft....looks like it gonna be really weak esp compared to 2021-2023.I'm ok with trading the pick but it has to be a really good player in return, like Naz Reid or Alex Caruso
The one major advantage we have is that the Nets' pick should be GOOD. Regardless of the strength of the draft, that is really valuable. What other potential buyers have a possible top-10 pick at their disposal? For example, the Thunder have a million FRPs going forward, but when you really look at them, they are generally protected and/or from contenders. I'm guessing many -- if not most -- teams would prefer a single top 10 pick as opposed to multiple late FRPs. The flipside is that I'd be wary about trading it for incremental pieces. For instance, I don't think I'd trade it for a guy like Bogdanovic or Brogdon.
I wish the draft was a stronger class. This being a weak one doesn't do us any favors when dangling the Nets pick in a trade. The good news is that sometimes talent is harder to evaluate in a weak class so having a later Lotto pick is nearly the same as picking in the top half. Furthermore, the most value our pick has is to the Nets themselves. I was banging on the table this offseason to trade them all back all the swaps and picks for Bridges but now I'm not sure we have even have a pathway for minutes / salary to Bridges with all our young players extensions looming. I think holding the pick and hoping the Nets continue to flame out is the best solution. They are an injury away from being one of the worst teams in the league. The only real need on our roster at the moment is a back-up 5 but I don't think it's worth parting any assets for that right now, especially when we can just draft one, maybe a Derrick Lively type with this pick. does a guy like this make our team better?
It’s interesting this year more than any I definitely think it’s worth the gamble to throw the draft playbook out the window and skew heavily towards need in the draft. Also folks need to realize that trading the BKN pick just because you think it’s a weak draft is missing the point. The BKN picks fill in the gap years where we do NOT have our own pick because of the stupid Westbrook trade. So the Rockets lose the ability to use picks in a future trade if they do have a pick each year for some years. If we were in the position that Presti/OKC is in, sure… move it for a piece that helps if you think the draft is bad. However we are in a much different situation because our draft asset inventory actually kind of stinks. If we want to be competitive in the trade market in the future we must keep the pick unless it’s for an all star caliber player.
If they can't trade for a star this deadline, the Rockets could trade the Brooklyn 2024 pick and have the ability to trade 4 unprotected firsts again this offseason once they can trade again. I don't think the Rockets need the type of player that can be acquired with one pick though. If the Rockets are trading the Brooklyn 2024 pick, they would likely need at least one other FRP to deal with it (or an unprotected FRP in 2026 to allow Rockets to deal Brooklyn 2026 without hampering ability to trade picks) to get someone that can help now and in the future. I keep looking at Boston hoping they would deal a FRP for either Tate or Tate and Holiday. Their starting lineup is amazing, but they are thin after their 6th or 7th man.
I mean who is out there that fits with the Rockets timeline? Guys that are usually on the market are older guys like Siakam and Lavine who is going to decline as our youngsters get better. There's not really a 2011 Harden out there to give a boatload of picks for.
Bridges. There's no need to go get a Harden. This is Sengun's team and then one of Whitmore/Amen/Jalen/Jabari will end up being star 2. Bridges as a 3rd option and active defender would be an amazing get. I'd trade all of the picks for him and Claxton.
Please for the love of God take Tate. I would ecstatic with a late first in 3024 for Tate at this point.
If they add Claxton then it should be a slam dunk. Amen, Jalen, Tari, Claxton, Cam what a fantastic 2nd unit. Not only playoff worthy this year, but contender worthy next year.
I don't get the Tate hate. Sure, he is a bottom of the rotation player, but he's good enough that even with the Rockets (i.e., a team without a Top 15 current talent), he's posting a decent positive +/-. Most late FRPs aren't going to develop into a rotation player.
I mean, I would trade filler + Nets picks for Claxton and Bridges in a heartbeat. So, like Tate, Oladipo, Je. Green, and Landale for Claxton, Bridges, and all their picks back? Yeah, I would do that without hesitation. The issue, however, is I doubt the Nets agree. They'd probably want one of our young players, and I'd be tempted for a Bridges and Claxton package. That would setup our team for a while.
Better the Houston Nets than the Houston Raptors.... Again I do not think the Nets are blowing it up, they never have in the past, they just waited till their aging stars just left on their own. Or catered to the Durant trade when they could not sway him.
Tate is not great defensively. He is an absolute foul machine. Good players hustle, hustling alone does not make a good player. Tari is a good player, Tate is not. We either couple him with a pick or two for something useful or he will just be riding the bench for most of the second half.
Giving up all of your draft capital and cap space for a guy that would be a third option is bad assessment management. Bridges also becomes a FA the year after Sengun and Green's next deals would kick in and the year Smith and Tari's extensions would begin. Tilman ain't paying all of those guys big money. Bridges would likely cost us Tari or Bari.
Bingo and someone like Bridges would not want to stay in Houston forever, he would look like a Cali dude or just stay in NY..... Houston has the 21 year old Star in Sengün and should look for younger players that are not old in Sengün's Prime approx.....starting at 25 ish....
