In academia, the content you create is (supposed to be) everything, so plagiarism (especially serial plagiarism) should be a professional death sentence

People get caught plagiarizing all the time. The real story here is how DEI and affirmative action allowed such an unethical mediocrity to rise the top of the world's most elite academic institution. It's almost as if they wanted to intentionally show how race/gender are the only things that matter by selecting her.

Unfortunately black conservatives are targets of labels like uncle toms etc. sometimes they are tough on the black community and speak non-PC truths which need to be heard, but are shamed out by a lot of liberals

Extremely long but well-written post by Bill Ackman, some of which is accurately summarized in the response tweet.

Because I’ve been traveling I haven’t been able to follow the Claudine Gay story much but if she was plagiarizing being black doesn’t excuse her lack of intellectual principle. At the same time Clarence Thomas being black and conservative doesn’t excuse his lack judicial principal and financially benefitting from people who have had business before the court.

People on the left don't dislike Thomas because of his background. In fact, it's really interesting and illustrative of his thinking. People dislike him because he adheres to a legal doctrine that conveniently aligns with modern conservative political aims while being incoherently rooted in 18th century "history".

It's sounds like she will not fall too hard. America has always been a solid place for second chances. She probably studied during a time that these plagiarizing tools weren't available so she was able to sneak through the cracks. With that said, I don't think she is a victim of racism.

Well the good old boys days aren't gone.... the only difference is that the good old boys are not the same group of boys.

Once she was in that academic "bubble", short of murder or pissing of the extreme left, she has it made.

The fact she is going to make $900,000 a year and will remain at the same institution is insane to me.... I wouldn't be surprised if they promote her quietly down the line. She clearly has some very strong and influential supporters.

She was "sworn in" to the position in September. I don't think she was president long enough to be wholly accountable for whatever is happening at Harvard. The fact that she was on some governing board means she was a part of it though.

As for the plagarism, NYT claimed "most of" her bouts of plagarism were not big idea issues rather boilerplate, which is ostensibly why she was cleared by internal review after filing revisions. Not entirely convincing to me as I'd rather see the accounts and decide for myself. There are probably focused-blogs that have each piece by piece but I'm not vested much on this issue.
