    Their payroll isn't that high even with the additions. And they have to put deferred money in escrow where it earns interest to pay the deferral so it's not like they are building some huge future liability.

    Can anyone explain to me how chase utley can be a hall of famer but Jeff Kent dropped off the ballot?

    Grissom is a touted hitter and can still young enough to figure it out. Cant play SS for ****, but theyll probably move him to 2nd

    Chase Utley was an elite defensive 2B in his prime. So his peak value was way higher than Kent's who was just OK defensively.

    I don't think Utley is a HOFer either, but he's clearly closer to one in my book.

    Chase Utley was a great all around player, and id take him over Jeff Kent. I do think he falls just short of being a HOFer though. It isn't his fault though, as he was screwed over by sitting behind Placido Polanco for 2 years. Polanco was a very good player, but it still cost him.
