As you complained about before, people have their own distinct behaviors on message boards.

You find your fellas and those that post like you .....just tolerate those who do not have resembling posting styles and who are not crossing lines.

A tolerance level should be there IMO. There is always the Ignore Button with dudes you cannot talk to.

You are assuming a lot here. Dunno what you’re talking about dude: “fellas that post like you”. My point was about decency and respect. That’s difficult for some. If you’re in this group then hey it is what it is.

My take on this is that all the back and forth makes the site more interesting although sometimes posters may get out of hand, especially the use of the word "idiot" and other adjectives that I think reflect more on the poster than to the intended person. I think the GARM is more alive when there is no kumbaya and suppression of contrarian opinions. It becomes stale and uninteresting when most posters worship the same person/s or players just like Morey's years when the worship of him and his thought to be newfangled ideas of injecting analytics and making it like the god of basketball. I stayed away from the GARM for years during that period because I knew how it would end considering that Jerry Krause often produced reams of statistics that Phil Jackson just threw in the trash during the Bulls dynasty. Posters were even calling to ban posters who did not worship Morey. So, that's that and the Rockets are still without any rings after all that. Here we are with a more basketball -minded coach honed by Pop, one of the greatest NBA coaches of all time, and we are talking mostly basketball again. Of course, stats are important and extremely useful, but they are only tools reflecting one aspect of understanding the players and the teams. In any case, let's have fun and not take this GARM and the NBA too seriously. These are fun times and enjoy the different perspectives and the relative success of the Rockets. Merry Christmas everyone, and thanks for all the fun that we posters have shared. The memes were great too!!

A lot of it is due to what I call even-ing.

That is, lets say you have a player like JG who polarizes the forum.
You have those that are half full and those that are half empty about him.

When the half full crowd posts, it incites the half empty folks to counter it.
    And visa versa.

Each side wants the last word and cant let the opposite point stand without a response.

its all about the biases and how insecure people is about the internet. What if you are wrong? People feel they are going to carry their mistakes forever and refuse to accept basic facts/have adult conversations.

Its impossible to have real conversations like that.

An even bigger portion of it has literally nothing to do with that, and comes down to "I wanted Mobley" or "KPJ and Green are the same, we should trade Green," they've literally been sat with their lube ready waiting to jerk off on their "I told you so's" since we drafted him, regardless as to whether that's premature or not. Should be pretty easy to pick the #notmysg guys from those who are legitimately discussing Jalen's concerning lack of improvement this season.

The thing is I actually get it, I just don't like it. Put yourself in the shoes of one of these guys for a minute. Ignore whether or not you agree with this but just think - if you believed that there was a 0% chance this team can succeed with player X (Sengun, Jalen, whoever), what would you want to happen?

Every time this player has a great game, it's actually bad for the team, because its going to prolong the delusion. It's going to make the team believe in this player more and more, give him a bigger contract, and possibly go all in on this player. And that's going to set the franchise back a decade or more. The rockets are going to waste their time backing this player rather than just moving on like they should.

And every time this player has a bad game, this is awesome. It's exactly what you need to happen. He sucks, and the rockets need to see that he sucks, and that his deficiencies aren't possible to overcome. The more bad games this player has, the more likely it is that the team realizes "we can't do this", and the more likely they are to just trade him, bench him, whatever. You're that much closer to seeing the team move on.

So yeah, I get it. I don't agree with it at all and I don't like it but it's logically consistent. I can't really blame them if this is what they truly believe. But man is it horrible for "the discourse" or whatever. It just makes it shitty and miserable to go online and talk about the team because these guys are lying in wait to fire off their "told ya so" garbage.

If two posters going back and forth for more than a page, they should be stopped for a day in that thread.

You can pretty much say whatever argument you have in less than 5 posts. Anything more than that is devolving into petty personal wanting to have the last word vibe. But there will never be the "last word" because the other side will always have something to get back at you, no matter how ridiculous that is.

Often, when the two sides run out of substance, that is when it devolves into personal attacks.

Agree with the second part. The first part is flawed logic to me and this is consistent with many fans. Scouts, execs, and coaches likely know what type of player they have when they draft them and expect players to grow and develop. They probably continue to track and monitor this growth and performance over a course of time. A lot of times it isn’t about just “talent” but how well a player fits in a system. Andrew Wiggins finding success in Golden State post MIN is a great example.

This period of evaluation can take several years especially with a player they plan on investing in. I can’t imagine a handful of good games is going to sway their opinions. This is an assumption if people think this is the case. It’s more about consistency and signs of improvements etc. Over a long period of time. Whatever that criteria they use none of us fans know but that’s why they get paid for evaluating and making those decisions not us keyboard Warriors.

It’s not an overnight process and the fallacy and lack of logic comes in when fans get impatient watching a handful of games then determining who is “trash” or who “sucks” etc. I keep telling people to Look at some of the great guards in this league and look at their second year compared to Green’s. Look at their 3rd year as well. But also look at the context in terms of other factors surrounding their season including roster experience, level of play of team, coaching etc. It’s easy to say Jalen “sucks” this year but look at the context. He is in a new system that pegs him as the 3rd scorer. He is finally learning how to play the right way from vet leadership. Fan impatience and assumptions make things crazy.

Agree, but I'd say if you can't convince someone in 2 posts then its not worth your or our time/space.

Folks we have the power to make this a great forum. Don't get sucked into an argument by those accounts that troll for their own bizarre desire to f_ck with fans.

I enjoy ClutchFans because so many of you are bright and thoughtful posters who have great insight or just interesting thoughts on my favorite teams. A few folks share some "insider" highlights and whether they happen or not, it's still fun to consider the maybes. I don't waste my time on the trolls or troglodytes, it's too precious. The ignore feature is wonderful, but so is your own power to not engage with idiots.

Stay thirsty my friends, our teams are on the right tracks...

Now that we have run out of excuses for the players, the blame is now turning to the coaching staff.

I was just thinking the same thing yesterday. They were legends after a week or two, but now ... we're done with them .... #FireUdoka! lol. Don't worry - if we win 2 or 3 games in a row, they'll grow quiet. Then they'll be back if we lose 2 or 3 games.

It's getting to that Spanoulis/Lin level with stupid in some of these threads where you just need to take a break. Most of the people I enjoy reading have left or are in hiding, so I'm left with people commenting on peoples' games without even watching them play or the next bust, fire, etc. thread by questionable posters/trolls. That doesn't even get into the "franchise" player threads that are nothing but the same 4 or 5 people going at it with very little new info other than "look, I found a tweet that agrees with me - it must be true!". :D

Or just use the ignore function as it is intended.
