They are weak, but you only need something, however feeble, to ‘acquit’—I mean, to overturn the CO decision. With a 6-3 conservative-to-liberal ratio, the SCOTUS is inclined to reverse it. However, I wouldn’t rule out a surprise for two reasons: firstly, the CO decision stands strong on conservative principles of originalism, and secondly, they’ve been presented with an opportunity to unequivocally distance themselves and the nation from an obviously immoral, flawed, lawless, and anti-constitutional figure without facing political backlash. They might just seize the moment.
Money shot: Michigan Supreme Court rejects bid to take Trump off primary ballot, but leaves open barring him from general election ballot and serving as Pres. IIRC Minnesota ruled similarly; Rs control who get nominated in their primary and who will go on to the general election ballot.
based on her ability to make speeches at the UN? Desantis is the only person running that hasn't made a total **** show of what they were in charge of.
Not even. Based on not being Trump. If De Santis leads in the polling then, I might vote for him in the primary.
Despite the media desperately trying to keep Trump in the race and GOP donors trying to keep NH, the only real choice is DeSantis.
The Colorado Rs won't let the sleeping dog lie. If the USSC does not take the case, Trump remains off the ballot in Colorado. The USSC would signal other states to Dump Trump. If the USSC takes the case and Trump wins, this will guarantee a Biden vs Trump rematch, which is preferable to Biden. If the USSC takes the case and Trump loses, Trump is off all ballots and can not be sworn in as the next POTUS since he is not qualified to hold the office. Biden might even drop out of the race, since Trump is out. Colorado GOP petitions SCOTUS to reverse disqualification ruling claiming party is 'irreparably harmed'
Look, all the republican candidates are dumpster fires. My only interest is keeping the fascist out. I wouldn't vote for anybody those jokers in the general election.
Oh well then if it's a troll vote go with Nikki Haley. The media is kissing her ass and the donors are all over her. If she is actually the nominee the media will turn on her like McCain in a heartbeat. "If elected, McCain would be inaugurated as our president at the age of 72, making him the oldest person ever elected. At his age, he’s too old to legally pilot a commercial airplane but not too old to sign orders sending military planes into combat. Yet more than half of voters surveyed in a recent USA Today poll didn’t even know his age and incorrectly guessed him to be younger than he actually is. Clearly, voters aren’t being afforded the debate and scrutiny that McCain’s age deserves." But biden at 82 is fine
What? Are you pretending that the media doesn't bring up Biden's age constantly? I can't hear a story about Biden's policy that doesn't also mention his advanced age and concerns about it.
Not exactly a troll vote. More like contributing a sane voice to the Republican primary so they can act as a more responsible party. Been doing it for almost a decade now. Will pick moderate republicans all down the ticket. But for the presidential candidate, I feel like I have to engage in some game theory voting given the grave danger posed by one of the options.
If you are a democrat you want trump to win the nomination. This is why they waited till election year to indict. Without this us vs them attitude he would be losing to DeSantis who might actually run a competent administration capable of making policy changes. It's highly unlikely Trump beats Biden, and if he does it will be shitshow #2 with nothing of import happening.
Except for that whole issue that the more people see of DeSantis, the more his poll numbers go down. DeSantis has never led Trump anywhere at any time - before or after the indictment. His high point was before he actually was campaigning. The minute he announced his campaign and started talking is the minute his poll numbers started a descent that still hasn't stopped. Pretty sure a large number of people consider Florida a total **** show. I doubt nearly as many people would say that about Haley's time as governor of South Carolina.
People saw more of Desantis during peak covid than now, so I don't accept that as linked. The media loves trump more than DeSantis because he is more needy of them. Covid was probably the most important issue of the last few years and DeSantis was ahead of the curve on lock downs. I admit that once Trump called him a pedophile in January it was going to be rough but again it is the Democrats and the medias fault and if he somehow wins over a competent executive its a gift from them.
Covid 19 was an important topic, but how was desantis "ahead of the curve" on lock downs, or anything else related to Covid. And I like how you blame trump on Democrats and the media. Don't think many if any of those will be voting for trump in primaries... perhaps you should be looking at republicans?
That's simplistic. I am a Democrat and I don't want Trump to be the nominee. As we saw in 2016, making him the nominee is a high-stakes gamble. Something goes wrong with your theory that Biden can beat Trump and next thing you know democracy is dead. I can survive having a Republican in the White House, but not Trump. And the indictments are not timed. This is the speed at which our justice system runs. Prosecutors may feel they need to rush to get a trial before we elect Trump God Emperor, but they didn't slow roll this thing.
Pretty sure no one is voting for anyone in the GOP primary because of Covid policies. Maybe if he campaigned on them, he might do better. But he chose to campaign on things like using Florida taxpayer money to ship Texas asylum seekers to other states. And openly called half his state his enemies that he wants to destroy. And fight a corporation for exercising free speech. And hire a voter fraud task force to go very publicly arrest minority voters and then let them go because they didn't actually do anything. And, in the bigger picture, fight "wokism" which no one can actually define. His poor campaigning and leadership strategy (and mannerisms) are the reason his polling dropped - no one paid attention to the details when he was making covid policies. And, of course, no one paid attention to the fact that the rest of the nation's more restrictive policies worked out just fine while getting less of their citizens killed. It's amusing how little "party of personal responsibility" the GOP has become. Are GOP voters not responsible for anything? I mean, these people hate the mainstream media anyway, so why would anything CNN or whomever says even matter? Or are you suggesting GOP voters are just extremely stupid and can't figure out what candidate they actually like?
if you actually support trumps policies and are mad that he lost in 2020 then the person you should be upset with most is trump himself. he would have coasted to a 2nd term if he could have managed to act like a decent human being. he lost because he is a toxic a**hole. its his fault. the thing is, for most trumpers its not about policy at all, rather its about a cult of personality around their leader. if it was about policy then liz cheney, who voted with trump over 90% of the time and was arguably the most conservative member of the house would still be in congress.
I didn't read the decision (nor the Colorado one) but I think this is dangerous territory. One on hand, SoS's and courts make eligibility decisions all the time on candidates. But this just seems too... weighty. How hard would it be for Texas to argue Biden has given "comfort and aid" to some random "enemy" of ours and disqualify him under the same clause? It seems an easy way out for the USSC is to say insurrectionists can't be on the ballot, as per the Constitution. And insurrectionists are people defined as having been convicted of the crime of ... insurrection.
