It is very hard to go from horrendous for several years - to good the next year, especially when you lack a franchise player. The Rockets basically tanked for three seasons, and got picks #2, #3 and #4. At this point, none of them are franchise type players. Sengun is a really good player, and the most productive player on the team - but he cannot carry them, at least at this point. Brooks and FVV can set the tone and expectations, but they aren’t special talents either. To win more than they lose - this team needs to be special defensively and give maximum effort. That won’t happen every time, no coach can make that happen. This is a positive season for the Rockets. They added an elite coach, veterans and Sengun and Smith are obviously improved. However we are also seeing the limitations of the rebuild, the lack of franchise altering players on the roster.
