He addresses me as "hey idiot" while I wasn't looking for an argument at all.

Sure buddy, whatever you say. You go right ahead talking about people's "sweet mouth" like some sort of weird prison rapist.

I dont remember a lot of media people big on Alpi until very recently. Do you have someone on your notes? Outside this forum?

Right, Hollinger had him rated very high pre draft.

I don't even know who that is tbh, you're the one out here talking about people's "sweet mouths." You come across like a thin skinned sex pest.

The moment he benches Sengun early everyone starts hogging and chucking 3s.

Different set of expectations for them both. Yao was the #1 pick of the draft. With a big amount of hype, and equal amounts of doubters. Cuz coverage of international game was still lower compared to now, so was questions about how good he actually was. Still there wasnt another clear #1 besides Jay Williams, the familiar college product. Top 3-5 picks get more favoritism.

Thats compared to being a mid round pick like Sengun, taken closer to Usman Garuba, Josh Christopher territory than a "Wembanyama" #1. Sengun didnt come in needing to be "handed" anything. Its like saying we're cheating out mid round pick Tari Eason. Of course Jalen Green and Jabari will be given the keys more than lower picks, its how it goes. Even Amen Thompson should probably be in G League more, but "#4 pick" keeps him on team more

Hollinger was very high on Sengun. Sam Vecenie was fairly high on him as well… the more metric driven evaluators were high on him.

I don’t think Sengun is a franchise player yet - but he is the best player on the Rockets and he has quietly been better than Paolo Banchero this year, and they are close to the same age.

Most prognosticators had Sengun in the 8-15 range of the draft… luckily the Rockets assistant GM (EW) pushed hard for Stone to draft Sengun. The Thunder almost kept Sengun, but his workout with them was terrible because he was exhausted and tired - so the Rockets got him and he has been good from the first time he stepped on the court.

KD peeped Sengun's talent way before mainstream. he was saying he liked Alpi last year.

Different era, different situation, different everything. I am not in a position to compare Sengun with Yao anyway. Just wanted to point out that the situation Sengun was put in was particularly bad, both on the sportive side and in terms of support, the messages he got from the org and the coach. It is unlikely yao went through something similar, if he did, I felt sorry for him too.

Sam Vecenie was also in on him since before the draft. Pretty much nailed that he could be an all star if he could be good enough to stay on the floor defensively.

Ironically those same evaluators were very high on Garuba too - similar story of feeling like the way they got stats in their respective leagues would easily translate to the NBA. Funny how they were so right about one and so wrong about the other.

Kevin Pelton is another of those analytics guys to @Nook point. Pelton is basically doing the same thing for ESPN that Hollinger was doing before he left there
