It's not racism and it's not a conspiracy, Silas was just a dumbass and a bad coach. He was singularly focused on playing one style of basketball regardless of his personnel. He wanted to play with ball dominant guards who either isolate on the perimeter or run high pick and roll. Basically the style of ball we played with Harden/Capela for years. Or the style he played with Luka when he coached the offense in Dallas. It was either 5 out small ball with a spaced floor, or 4 shooters plus a rim running center who could set good screens, catch lobs, and protect the rim. That was it, that was the only style of basketball Silas had any intention of playing. I truly believe if you were able to put year 3 Jokic in a time machine and put him on last years rockets, Silas would have had the usual suspects convinced that he sucks. He would've been benched because he can't play defense and can't catch lobs from the head honcho. Rocketchamp would be posting that Jokic is worse than Bruno Fernando. It's not racism, it's not a conspiracy, it's coaching ineptitude.
There was literally a league wide mantra to foul yao out of games in the playoffs. What the hell are you talking about? JVG got fined like 200k for goinf public that a league employee told him about it
I am talking about how his coach and organization treated him. Don’t know what it has to do with what you say.
100% Silas was garbage. He was not, however a racist. And neither are the people who dare to not worship at the temple of Alpi. I think they're idiots at this point, but people need to stop throwing out stupid accusations like that just because there's a few people too stubborn to enjoy our budding star player.
Ineptitude was a large part of it but he never criticized any other player for their defense, although the perimeter players were much worse than Sengun. Literally his face was going sour when somebody mentioned Sengun.
Holy! are we getting old? or is there just a lot of new posters? It may be true that the all star comparison with Yao is unfair, but the gentle giant was a great Rocket for many years. Let's wait until Turkish delight give us a couple playoff memories before trying to put him at the top. Been high on Sengunatics since day 1. But let's keep our conversation grounded. We all agree this kid is able to hit those peaks. But you have to be on the peak for seasons to claim some of the things we are reading here. And you have to have signature playoff moments.
I do not think it was racism. I think he was scared Sengun's post play would make his plan to coach the only offense he knew (heavy guard iso / 5 out crap), look as stupid as it actually was given the personnel he had. He had no clue how to coach a team with a post player like Sengun so he marginalized him to hide his incompetence.
Apart from Silas's tunnel vision, there was a mandate from Stone to make KPJ the number 1 option at all cost. That pretty much ruled out a Sengun-centric offense. And Sengun not being a good outside shooter could not fit well without getting a lot of touches in the post. It didn't help that he was discouraged to develop an outside shot. Despite that, Sengun was able to show flashes of greatness, so much so that the rest of the league took notice and there was increasing chatter on the media. Silas was visibly awkward whenever he was asked about Sengun. He would just mumble some brief excuse and try to quickly change the subject. He obviously sensed the pressure mounting in the media but was pulled back either by Stone's insistence or his own lack of offensive vision (or both).
In the end, my most reasonable explanation is Silas is an a55hole who is very well aware of how bad he is. And he needed a someone to blame for his failures. The unathletic slow kid who didn’t speak much English looked like his best choice, since green was a potential superstar and kpj was stone’s project.
Wasn't. When Alp emerged the best player in a certain game he tried to select couple of players as "the player of the game". He wanted Trey Murphy III, not Alperen to be drafted. I stopped to follow him but I have to admit he is the first media person who jumped Alp's wagon, much earlier than DuBose, Iko, Nope... He might end up the most Alp-enthusiast. Remember the old say: "There is no zealot like a convert". p.s: I have kind of Asperger lottery, rarely forget
I think this is due to his one dimensional view of how to run an offense, though. Similar to the Luka dame and harden style, your offensively talented guards are allowed to be poor defenders. It’s fine, because you’ve got your athletic defensive stud back there to protect the rim when they get beat off the dribble. That’s just the way it’s supposed to go. So if our guards can’t play defense that’s fine, it’s part of the system, because we’re relying on our big guy to pick up the slack. And when he can’t do it, well, that’s his fault.
As a very Central Anatolian man it is obvious that I am not a black sea person and not keen on northeastern black sea people because of "5361 tayfasi". Alp is an exception.
