The Astros don’t have the equivalent. Lowder, Arroyo, and Phillips are Top 100 type prospects, and Petty is a very good prospect as well. Houston would be looking at something like Hunter Brown, Spencer Arrighetti, Jacob Melton, and Forrest Whitley, and I don’t even think that is all that close.
But Cincy would never agree to it. That's the point - that's what the Sox asked for not what the Reds offered and they told Chicago to get bent.
Merry Xmas to all! we have a special Xmas pod up on Breathing Orange fire where we gave out Xmas gifts to a bunch of the Astros. Check it out, rate, review and if you are inclined tell me what you would give the special Astro in your life
Just finished it and it was fun. I must say I liked all but a couple of the gifts. Very disappointed in your gifts to Alex and Jeremy. My gifts: 1) a gym membership to Dubon and Javier. 2) a Martin Maldonado mask to Yainer Diaz. 3) a crystal ball that shows a $275M+ CBT in the near future to Jim Crane. 4) a stronger arm to Chas and Jake. 5) a squeezable stress ball to Kyle Tucker. 6) 2 dozen undershirts to Jose Abreu 7) a 7yr $200M contract to Alex Bregman that he happily accepts. More later a bit busy this morning.
Those are pretty good. I mean- I’m not anti Peña. I’m just really pro Randy A and a Tampa reliever. Think that moves our offense from an 8.9 to about a 9.7. Maybe would be our best lineup ever. I think probably would if Abreu is healthy all year.
I'm not anti Pena either but do acknowledge he may not ever have more value and is much more high floor than high ceiling. In the right deal I would be good with a deal. It was the Framber deal and worry about any pitcher TB gives up giving me pause.
We should have a pic / meme of the month voting thread ... there have been some stellar contributions throughout the year. This one owns December... instant classic, nice job. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Feliz Las Posadas, Rockin' Kwanza, & Short-bus Festivus for the rest of us... #dillydilly
Astros wouldn’t try to offer that package level. The Reds would be extremely foolish to offer that package for Cease. In general, I find the Reds prospects to be over-rated in general - but that is a major over pay.
Yeah - his camp is hoping that a team with money will step up and make a large offer after whiffing on the top pitchers in free agency. There are still several top starting pitchers available in free agency and relievers as well. He hasn’t been a starter in several years. I know he has been selling himself as a starter but he may have to be a reliever in 2024 before a transition in 2025.,I think that coupled with lack of #1 pitcher upside is what has kept him continuing to survey the market. I know the Astros have believed he can become a starter, but I personally view him as a reliever because of his level of success in the pen and his stuff.
Ehh Pena still has some potential upside. He in the past has flashed a lot of power. With his glove, if he hits 25-30 homers, he can be close to an all star. He isn’t a natural hitter - but neither are some hall of Famers.
Yep. Spring starts in ~60 days and there’s still 10 everyday caliber position player free agents and a dozen quality pitchers. And the only significant trade has been Soto.
