This is EXACTLY why Cam should not go back to G-League. He should stay with the Rockets, participate in practices, meetings, film watching and get individual training like this.
He also needs to take some of Green's minutes outside of garbage time to see what happens. Just a few because I think he has earned them.
It is time he gets some non garbage time minutes. He dominated summer league and he has dominated G league. When you are that consistently good elsewhere, it tends to translate to the NBA. Tari dominated summer league and we knew we had something, and it has translated to the NBA. Jabari also did very well in summer league this year, and he looks very good as well. I think the sample size is significant enough for Cam at this stage, and Jalen is really trending the opposite way. In the garbage time minutes cam played recently, his defense looked questionable at times, but they had such a large lead I don't think anyone was playing tough defense.
If Jalen doesn't raise his game, this will definitely happen. Just be patient. We are only 30 games into the season.
The backcourt violation that he decided he was too good to run for the ball which led to an easy basket for the other team is the kind of thing that keeps you in the g league. Coaches take notice. Ime is not the coach that will give you playing time just because you feel entitled to it.
It’s also the type of thing that those who want him immediately given starter’s minutes never notice. I keep seeing people calling for heavy minutes for two rookies simultaneously, completely ignoring the decades of history showing that rookies simply do not win in the NBA. There are a million small things they don’t do well, which are not obvious on the stat sheet, but which lead to losing basketball. I am NOT saying Jalen is great at those things, but if you think giving all of his minutes to Cam and/or Amen will increase the winning percentage, you are delusional.
I cringed my brains out seeing that lack of effort because I am rooting for him. I found myself hopelessly trying to make him run for the ball. I hope he has a revelation because those possessions hint to abysmal mental attitude. Hope it was a brainfart instead
Harden did that plenty of times over his tenure in Houston. Cam Ain’t Harden but one mistake shouldn’t condemn him from valuable playing time
Not a fan of Jalen but I don't like to evaluate players by their social media videos. Ben Simmons posted a ton of videos every summer and never really progressed.Jalen also shared a lot of "in the lab" videos last summer btw. There are also players who rarerly post workout videos but improve a lot. Still good to see that Cam is working on his game.
Rockets send a coach to GLeague with him. And I’d be disappointed in the org if they do not Zoom him into film session meetings. And the Rockets coach with him can discuss the meetings 1x1 after, as well.
They have to get those 2 right because otherwise developing future athletic players are going to be a problem.
