Getting two lane steals that lead to a break the other way and running the court and being in the right spots for teammates to find you helps with that. Context matters. He wasnt out there isoing or jacking up bad shots hogging the ball.
I get that vibe too, but it's understandable. The dude was expecting to go as high as top 5 and fell all the way to 20th. And now he's toiling away in the G-League while watching Jalen stink it up most nights. Didn't Jabari also kinda have a chip on his shoulder for a while after he dropped to 3rd when everyone expected him to go 1st overall? He seems to finally be moving on from that and just playing basketball now(winning games certainly helps).
Tate needs to be traded. Cam is not quite getting the defensive rotations and that is hard with little practice time and only playing garbage minutes. I think he could become very valuable as instant offense off the bench. Tari generates a lot of his own offense from steals, offensive rebounding and is a straight up dawg. I see that same ability with Cam. Tate is a foul and turnover machine. HIs hustle is obvious, but to me it is ineffective hustle. He was absolutely terrible last night.
Tate is slow anfd can’t shoot anything but layups. It’s an absolute insult that he is ahead of Cam on the depth chart. Did anyone notice that Cam is also the best “stealer” on the team as well. That guy is so quick and athletic that he gets multiple steals every time he’s on the court.
Many people including myself had him going at number 4 over Amen because he was younger and could shoot enormously better. He is frustrated that he should be getting the same playing time as Amen, but is only getting g-league and garbage minutes. Kobe Bryant was done over the same way by his coach (Del Harris) and couldn’t get on the court for his life the first season and was still bitter about it up and until his death. We can all act like Cam has a weakness here or there or shoots too much, but anyone who has watched basketball knows that he needs to be out and performing on the NBA court. If he was taken where he should have been in the draft he’d be getting minutes on a nightly basis. Sending him back to the g-league at this point only hurts the Rockets.
Love Tate but I hope he is moved for a backup Center upgrade. Plus the Tari/Cam combo off the bench is going to be sick.
I dont know whats going through Cams mind, but he had the same body language and facial expressions when he was in college and evensin summer league. I dont know how much we can read into hos demeanor. I think thats just who he is.
If you want Will Weaver to work his magic, you'll have to go to Paris. Cam and Ime both said the Rockets don't really care as much about his offense - they're more worried about his defense/decision-making and that's where he needs to improve. It's basically what anyone watching his earlier games could. I'm guessing he's blowing up the defense on missed rotations which would piss Ime off within a game. I don't think anyone who actually watched Cam can say he was "tuned in" too much on defense early, and even early in the G-League it was about getting himself buckets. As time's gone on, he's become more of a willing passer and seems to have a knack for getting steals in passing lanes as well as taking a few chances to get them. Whether or not this means he can play as part of a defensive unit without giving up as much as he scores still remains to be seen. Ime's also already said we have a logjam to allow Cam even more time which doesn't help. Makes me wonder if we'll do a trade somewhere because I think Cam deserves at least a few minutes with the backup squad.
I absolutely know what’s going through Cam’s mind…..”How in the $&@“ am I playing behind low iq and turnover machine Jalen Green AND can’t hit a shot if my life depended on it Amen Thompson”.
I think this is right and let's not forget he is only 19 years old they tend to over react on things as they mature. DD
I think this is right - they know he can play offense, but they are hanging their hat on defense first as they build and he needs to show that he can lock in on that end and when that happens he plays more consistent minutes. DD
In the long run the hungry dawg always wins. The common problem I see with the youth aau is the good players act like GMs and owners of the club. Without them the team crumbles and they can leave anytime. This creates a nasty attitude because their parents pump their head so much. Coaches cater to them so they can be happy. They'll find other players to do the dirty things that contribute to winning, but in the NBA you'll get exposed for lacking the small things
He looks good on defense as he gets multiple steals whenever he rarely plays those garbage minutes. Udoka is a great coach and doesn’t want to play two rookies in the same game….makes sense. Honestly, I’m not sure he’s benching the right guy. Amen will never be elite because there is no such thing in the NBA for a guy who can’t shoot the rock. Amen can’t and never will be that guy. His best case scenario is Ben Simmons and that will get him a lengthy career. There are zero other examples of non-shooter all stars. Cam does have that ability and will be a future all-star, so he needs to be playing for his development and Amen should be in the g league learning how to shoot threes and free throws. Still happy we got Amen as he’s a good defender and passer, but ONLY because we lucked into Cam at 20.
