Fred VanVleet will be the worst FA acquisition in Rockets history

FVV and that contract will be gone by the deadline next year...in a deal for a max guy. He's done a good job..what's been needed in here. We knowingly "overpaid", but got the stabilizing influence at a critical juncture/position, on and off the court. And, the contract is the vehicle to the BBD.

 

This is absolutely not going to happen lol. Fred isn't going anywhere and doesn't need to be going anywhere. The team will likely give him the 3rd year because of how much he's helped turn the team around and then they'll revisit him coming off the bench behind Amen Thompson as a backup PG like CP3 has been in his twilight years.

 

he isn't going anywhere in less than 2 years. By all accounts of how much he is valued across the organization, they're going to roll with FVV and make a decision into that option year. This wasn't some im going to sign you to max and play you for a year and a half to dump.

Year 1 with FVV is a stepping stone towards a taste of relevance. Year 2 is a another step of being more consistence in relevancy. How that year 2 goes in its entirety will decide how they move forward for his option but this assumption that he only plays for the rockets for a little over 1 season is silly

 

Only the first two years of Fred's contract are guarantied. The 3rd year is a club option.
So, next year could be his last as a Rocket.

Not FVV related, but I feel what she’s saying. Best player can’t be small.

 

terrible logic. tony parker and I. Thomas are both champs who have finals mvp under their belts. You can absolutely win with guards like them being your best player. there's no surefire you win a title this way

The knicks are a playoff team with Brunson and because of him. They're not a perennial contender bc of what's after him. to take the next step after being a playoff team you actually need at least one other elite player as well as proven rotational players. last i checked the name of the game is to lead your team into the playoffs. That's exactly what Brunson has brought to the knicks all while folks tried to say he wouldn't be good without Luka. He's already proven he can do that. But it's not on him to be the reason why they're not a title favorite. That's on the organization to put the right pieces around your proven talent who actually impacts winning and get them to the playoffs

The only issue with FVV right now is he's having to take way more 2pters than he should be taking. He's great at everything else. Jalen, Cam, Amen and Jabari need to step up and earn some more shots off him. We're on a good trajectory, the offense is going to improve a lot when FVV is in a more comfortable role.

Going to be a great contract for contenders starting this coming summer. Expiring with the ability to extend upward/downward easily and a valuable piece for a championship run. Fits on any team that already has its primary scorers set. We're super safe with this contract and he's been great for the team.

 

Parker was the 3rd best guy on the spurs though, even if he did get the one troll FMVP ala iggy. He certainly wasn't their best guy....

I think the idea is your best guy can’t be a small guy. Spurs best guy was a center so it doesn’t apply to them. It’s more about guys like dame/trey/brunson etc.

Yeah, that's what she literally said : "If your best guy is small, you're not winning" and she added Steph as the outlier being on another level to his own. But, I'm not sure even he would've won anything without Klay, Draymond, KD, Iguodala, etc. I'd like her to clarify what she means by "not winning". If she means regular season or maybe playoffs, I can agree. About the only thing I don't get is her use of the phrase "brass taxes". lol.

 

What are yall even talking about? FVV has been great for this team- why do you feel the need to clarify Curry’s importance in the pantheon of smaller NBA players? It literally has nothing to do with FVV because he ain’t that guy, we aren’t building around him at his age, and this team isn’t competing for a title any time soon.
