I cannot claim any credit to that it was done by people more clever and skilled than I. Also if you liked that here is:
So I broke down and watched the first two episodes of season 2 of Foundation and as an Asimov fan I’m still disappointed at how far it departs from not just the story but the central themes of Asimov. Leaving how different it is from the actual Asimov story it’s kind of a mess with a convoluted plot involving time travel and premonition. The feeling I really got of it is that they intended to make Star Wars show as the look and even music of it feels a lot more Like the Disney Star Wars universe.
There's no neckbeard outrage for it like Witcher. I'm amazed how showrunners can butcher a fine source material and assume the finished product will be appreciated. Arrogant twats. Then again, I'll take a stab at most things sci fi, so maybe I'm part of the problem by participating.
Apple TV's subscriber base isn't as big as Netflix, and thus less viral marketing/social media participation. I watched season 1. There wasn't anything special about it, quite boring actually. The world building was cool, but too many sub plots and not enough cohesion to keep interest. Doubt I'll give season 2 a watch.
I forgot 80% of S1. Gail still annoys me. I wish she'd mess up incredibly AND solve her own oopsies rather than get a lucky saving throw. It's sad when their most compelling characters are the megalomaniacal sociopaths Empire and Seldon. There's still some interesting sci fi bits but the side characters are so bland that the writers have to tell you how great they are. These shows all handle empowered growth so hamfistedly. It's boring and predictable without any grounding to realistic circumstances. Can we quit celebrating characters for "being there" and actually devote brainspace into developing them into full rootable or relatable characters?
I will probably watch the rest of season two when I’m bored enough but it’s not really captured my interest and still bothers me how they just drop Asimov’s ideas. It still seems like you could make a very compelling story sticking much closer to Asimov. I know producers think people just want action and sex (I was groaning and not from lust when they went that route) but as movies like Arrival and Interstellar show there is an interest in stories that deal with deep philosophical concepts and don’t depend on action to hold the viewers’ interest.
agree, lee pace is great in this. too bad it's let down by goyer doing his edge lord thing. also the awful dialogue where they've decided to bookend sentences in the most condescending way.
Only watched 6 episodes so far but season 2 is already better than the entirety of season 1, I just had to get past the boring first episode and then it got interesting.
That's good to hear. I'm 15 minutes into the 1st episode and bored. I've heard a lot about how season 2 was improved.
Worth pushing through. Honestly, I would fast forward through anything related to Hari, Salvor and Gail in the first episode. At least double speed it so you suffer less.
It is both inherently funny and yet realistic that men of such stature think of themselves and act accordingly. Love Empire for hilariousness and chilling coldness.
Salvor Hardin is a major character on the Asimov Foundation and Hari Seldon is the driving character. The Emperor plays a smaller role in the story and Cleon isn’t even the emperor at the time of the Foundation. More reason they should’ve just dropped calling this “Foundation” and instead just done their own story and called it “emperor”
I totally understand why you feel that way, I feel the exact same way watching the Wheel of Time and the travesty they've done to it with all the changes. That being said, I find Foundation entertaining having never read the books, so I am enjoying it more than WOT TV show, but once again, I understand your sentiment a 100%.
When Goyer's name is attached it guarantees the finished work will be a "reimagining" of the source material in a certain way. If he was given the reins to an adapation of Jesus Christ Superstar. Jesus would be Mary Magdalene's black pleather wearing pimp who goes on a murder spree.
