The chronicle is more at fault than her for this nonsense, but as an entity (most of us don't even give them a dime to start with) there's really nobody to attack except her...as unfair as that may be.

Hiring a lifelong fan of their chief rival the year after losing to them in the playoffs and who admits they don't like or respect the face of the franchise, and has likely actively rooted against the team and hopes they lose every game they play. If this happened in Chicago, LA, or one of the northeast cities what she's getting here would seem like childs play.

I agree 100% you don't need to be a fan of the team you are covering..but, yeah it's a bad look. The overraction from Astros fans is over the top also, but people suck, particularly on social media.

She went after Altuve based on nothing more than a desire to impress her Yankee friends.Hit pieces by "reporters" are what she does.

If what she said previously doesn’t matter, then what she says now and in the future shouldn’t matter either. In which case she’s out of a job.

You’re conflating the way things *should* be and the way they *are*. In a perfect world, she would have received gentle ribbing or just straightforward disagreement. In a reasonably just world, the Twitter reaction would have been limited to people strongly disagreeing with her opinion on Altuve and pointing out the stupidity of taking the Astros job without accounting for her previous negative Astros comments. But neither of those worlds is real. In the real world, the internet is chock full of shitty people waiting to be mean and/or join a mob. If that reporter was ignorant of that reality, she shouldn’t have been (she’s clearly been in similar situations before), so she should have expected the reaction she got. Did she *deserve* that reaction? Nope, but as they say, deserve’s got nuttin to do with it.

She is a victim in the sense that she was bullied online as part of a massive public overreaction. But does that mean posting about being suicidal and shutting down her social media accounts was the right way to react to it? Only if she doesn’t want to continue on the job she just accepted. The reality of internet sports fandom isn’t changing and she can either deal with that or change careers. That may not be the situation she deserves but its reality.

Ask Jose Altuve if his life has been altered in any way by people like her in media lying with impunity about things they know nothing about. It is a story that repeats itself over and over and it is very distasteful to hear it defended here.

She did?!?!? Do you mean to tell me that a fan had something negative to say about a rival????????? Holy ****. I had no idea it was THAT serious. Have the authorities been alerted?

The only difference is SHE'S being PAID to do it. She should have a thicker skin or find another profession she can handle.

So... two wrongs make a right?... You're so outraged by the treatment Jose Altuve has received, you wish it upon others?....

Not any person at random, the originating perpetrator. What goes around, comes around. I find your selective outrage disingenuous.

Yeah; she's a beat reporter in a social media age. Who cares what she has to say?...

Wow. This is such a mess. Do you really believe any of this nonsense? It's all such flaccid tough guy bravado. Do people really think like this? That those who've wronged you (and boy, is "wronged" a stretch in this case) have it coming?... I can't imagine that being a force in anyone's life when the matter is so utterly meaningless.

She said something negative about a baseball player you don't know and who makes millions of dollars, and think no matter how vile & dangerous the response to that comment is, it's wholly justified because, welp - that's just the way it is!

Got it. Report the truth - unless it's about her, in which case, keep her mouth shut and spew positive bullshit about your favorite baseball team. OR ELSE!

A lie is always serious and should be dealt with as such. A lie in the media is much more serious and the perpetrators of those lies should lose their positions. No honorable news organization should be allowed to keep them on without serious repercussions from their readers. Liars or those who support them do not deserve anyone's sympathy or respect. No exceptions.

Jose Altuve was wronged. I have no issue spotlighting the individuals who fed - rather than investigate/report - that narrative. But that's a clear example of those with a powerful platform refusing to do their jobs. But even those people don't deserve the kind of vitriol being spit at this poor woman, who, unless I'm mistaken, was speaking as a fan.

I don't have a problem with this. So now explain how this rational point of view justifies the vile behavior toward this woman.

I remember when I got random death threats online. Not fun. But comes with the territory of randomly running for office.

Again, you’re conflating what’s *justified* vs what should be expected. I pointed out in my comment that the internet reaction to her was unjust. That doesn’t mean it was unexpected. I have zero idea where you’re drawing “flaccid tough guy bravado” from anywhere within my comment. Nowhere have I said that the twitter reaction she got was justified. I pointed out that it was expected, and that her reaction to that reaction showed a lot of ignorance (or stupidity) on her part. Your whiteknighting on behalf of some public figure is weak as ****.

What evidence does she provide other than WHINING about it? I honestly don't trust her version of the Truth. It's like you have to believe the vicious lying woman.

You are the most duplicitous individual I have ever encountered. Your attempt to take the high ground by both agreeing and disagreeing with me in the same sentence just makes you sound as if you are a person with no standards. If both everything and nothing is OK with you then you have nothing to contribute. There is truth and there are lies. There is good and there is evil. There is just behavior and there is injustice. Pick an ideology.

Publishing lies is vile behavior and should be treated as such. We are not having a private conversation here. Every time you hit Post Reply you are making a public statement. The internet is the worlds biggest soapbox. To give lies the same respect as you give the truth encourages liars to continue their bad behavior. You do not seem to get the message when it is put diplomatically so I will simply say cut it the hell out.
