I get that, but my expectations for him were already pretty low coming out of the draft, and he isn’t even reaching those. I compared him to Ben Gordon and was absolutely piled on for it. Turns out that comparison was far too generous. Having to adjust expectations for a #2 pick that was supposed to be one thing, but instead turned out to be the polar opposite, is enough reason to get angry. Especially when you look at all the stars drafted after him.
So was Andrew Wiggins. He wasnt and isnt, but he became a main contributor on a championship team. The Jalen Green post game circle jerk is 10000% real. Even after he has a good game, like last nights game, hes blamed for the loas and call vulgarities. Happens. Every. Single. Fuucking. Game. Great game, bad game, average game doeant matter. Go cruise any game thread from the past 2 or 3 weeks. Ita always a hate jalen circle jerk. Some times he deserves it, admittedly, but not to the extent and vigor he receives. Its just a pathetic display of fandom imo.
What you’re failing to realize is the years of rising tension between the two groups. Pre-draft, most of the criticism about Green was valid and more than fair, but nobody was willing to listen to it. Of course there may have been some aggressive hot takes but there is going to be that about literally every topic on this website. The hostility was spawned by the group who refused to acknowledge any valid criticisms that people had of him, and people are fed up and doing their victory laps in response.
But the thing is, to me, getting back at another poster isn’t worth literally hating a player on the team that we’re rooting for. I definitely agree that people who attack other people’s character for having an opinion on a basketball player are ridiculous and immature, but I do think that Jalen hasn’t really done anything to deserve the vitriol—it’s not like he’s encouraging those wild posts about him (****, I’ll bet he doesn’t even know what ClutchFans is) I totally understand the critiques on Jalen’s game because I agree with a lot of them myself but it seems to me that Jalen as nebulous CF construct has superseded the actual Jalen Green in a lot of people’s minds. He’s kept his head down, bought into a new system, and is simply not playing good enough right now. I hope that’ll change soon.
And now the anti green criticism has gotten ao loud and obnoxious, its literally impossible to say anything positive about him or his contributions without getting mass hostility. At the end of the day, Jalen Green is a Houston Rockets basketball player. We should criticize him and we should cheer him. Instead hes viewed around here like sam bowie.
Basically what I’m trying to say is this - Many MANY posters on here straight up instigated many fights calling posters all kinds of names and labels for giving valid criticisms of Jalen Green. I can’t count how many times I was met with the “Don’t bother coming back when Green proves you wrong, you’re not a real Rockets fan and you’re not welcome here” Those people don’t get to instigate and insult and demean and tell others to delete their accounts for years and expect nothing in return when their man crush falls flat on his face.
It was literally impossible to say anything negative about him for years on this website. You get what you give I guess.
Jalen has regressed from previous years. He is one of our most inefficient players. His defense is okay at best. His advanced stats are pretty much across the board terrible. I'm sorry...but what is "obnoxious" about pointing out the obvious? What is there about Jalen Green that we should be singing praises of? Of course we all want him to be great. But he isn't. Not even close. So why is it bad to state the facts?
No I totally get it, and that **** is uncalled for. I don’t expect respect online but some modicum of civility is always helpful in getting a point across—I’m hoping that if Jalen DOES turn it around, people won’t need to be so personal when it comes to defending their guy. But I’m not the Internet police, I just post too much on a Rockets fan site
Whats obnoxious is a slew of looong time poaters calling him literal slurs. Im not saying give praises, nothing of the sort. Give criticism go ahead. Makes sense.but he doeant just get criticism. He gets legit venomous hatred. Gets called a p"ssy, called a f"cking loser, a piece of sh"t, etc etc and thats just comments i seen tonight, juat imagine how much of this from the past month there has been. Its an absolutely pathetic display from our fandom. No one is willing to stand up or say anything but its tasteless and a huge reason im hardly on CF anymore. This season is exciting and full of joy so i subject myself to the misery around here more frequently again but its sad.
The posts on here has definitely gotten wilder since the Harden years…Jalen deserves a good deal of criticism for his play, but DEFINITELY not for how he has conducted himself. It’s part of the reason I still support him so much despite him making me mad all the time
39.8% TS% just isn't going to cut it. Last night was such a breath of fresh air and unfortunately it's looking like it was just another fluke.
You just don't understand how drafting works. Drafting is just playing the lottery, and high picks only increase your overall odds of hitting something, it's nowhere near a guarantee of like some people make it. People that constantly throw out insane comparisons/expectations before every draft are just delusional. Hitting a star on the 16th pick is really no different than a No.1 pick. You just have to hit it, and it seems like we got the best player in the 2021 draft. It's all a numbers game, in my eyes all draft positions are equal once they step onto the court. Some swim some sink, people on this forum gets way attached to draft positions it's bad for their health. I don't think the Bucks are crying because they built a championship on a 15th pick and a 39th pick while their lottery players flamed out.
I mean...this is all fair, but here's where the issue lies: Because of the draft capital spent on Green, he is prioritized & given extended minutes/shots/etc. despite being quite obviously one of our teams worst players. It's a compounding issue. There is no reason he should be 2nd on the team in shots & top 5 in minutes played at this moment in time.
Its absolutely wild that reddit is a much better and tame reading experience now in comparison. Just wild.
I said it more than once. If Green and Sengun swapped draft positions, a lot more people would be happy with the same results. What bothers me is that some people actually are happy when the player they don't like isn't playing well. It doesn't matter if it hurts the team. They'd rather run victory laps.
I think part of it is, all the constructive conversations have already been said a number of times. There just isnt anything new to say until if/when Jalen turns the corner. Meanwhile, whining and criticism have no end. Those folks dont mind repeating themselves endlessly.
I guess we're just more passionate on here--for better and for worse. The dream would be for Jalen, Alpi, Jabari and all our other "popular" players to pan out together so there'll be more positive intercourse between people and we can get back to being mostly mad at referees, the opposing team, and the lack of decent Rockets coverage
Like the thing is a lot of people criticize Bobby for being low on Green but he's given credit when Jalen plays well and it doesn't seem to be personal. It doesn't make sense to me how catty it gets with Jalen...he doesn't know any of us exist, whether we love him or hate him. So why not just hope he does great instead of hoping he sucks to stick it in the faces of other people who don't know who you are
when people say jalen is playing better defense.. i personally don't see it. yes he is somewhat able to stay in front of his man when on ball instead of being a literal traffic cone like last year.. but that is such a low standard. he still gets back cut all the time, gets caught ball watching, still doesn't fight through screens hard enough, still doesn't communicate on switches. he's still reactionary on the defensive end instead of being someone who can make a real impact by anticipating, playing passing lanes, knowing the other team's plays, being a vocal leader...instead he is way too passive and is usually just standing around until the man he is guarding gets the ball. and in that sense, he is still an absolute zero on defense for me.. even harden was more impactful on defense than jalen by playing passing lanes and being able to switch onto bigs and hold his own in the post... jalen is just a walking mismatch, who now doesn't even provide anything on offense.
