2 for 4 from three in a single-game sample size is fine. You'd expect a decent three point shooter to have some games like that, some where he's more like 1 for 4. 7 assists is also solid but unspectacular. I'm not saying he had a bad offensive game. But for a guy who's expected to be your primary play finisher and you have to hide him on defense? Not good enough for this to be his best game in a week. I'm sorry, it's just not.

I'm trying to be patient with Jalen. I really am. He's still very young. But he's running out of time. Every game where he doesn't show out is another game to overcome later in the season and prove he's worthy of a big extension. And right now he's simply not worth it. He has to get significantly better, and he has to do it soon.

Why? No one is saying he has to get that big extension. If his ceiling is Jalen Suggs then I don't care, he won't be paid like a franchise star.

My point is you are criticizing him for this game when he had a great game. Literally said he made wrong calls when he shot 50% from 3 and had 7 Asts to 1 to. You are just plain wrong.

 

Yes. Objectively Jalen had a good game. There's only an objective perspective and hater perspective.

 

He’s 110.9. Average is 110.6. He’s a below average defender. Thus, not a good defender.

I just don't agree with the premise that it was a "great game". It may feel that way because he's been such a soul-sucking drag on the team over the past week. It was a small step in the right direction at best. But he has to be better than this if he wants to remain a starter. Right now he has me entertaining thoughts about guys like Immanuel Quickley or Lonnie Walker--players who can at least consistently put up this kind of performance, minus a bad game here or there.

I do agree that he doesn't have to be a star player. My problem is that an efficient game like this is rare, let alone on high volume (which this was not). For him to be a starter, this needs to at least be his normal level of performance, not the best game out of the past four. Or else he needs to be better defensively so that we're not hiding him on the team's worst players. One or the other, or both.

 

This stat cannot be fully relied upon. Jalen is about 11th or 12th in the team on steals and blocks. Green is often assigned a weaker opponent to defend and they switch quite often so ratings get affected by overall team effort on defense. If you solely rely on stats then Brooks is also 110 does that mean Jalens is as good a defender as Brooks? I thought you were "objective"?

 

Scientifically theres a reason for it if your muscle memory has you taking the shot with X joules of strength to make that bucket suddenly you get 40% more muscle mass if you shoot with the same effort as before you are gonna overshoot.

50% from 3 and 7:1 to ratio, 16/2/7 in 3 quarters is a great game. If everybody played like Jalen we win this game.

 

We went from 6th in the West to 9th after one loss… so brutal.

 

This "explanation" of what went down is all lies. Brooks wasn't swinging wildly and hardly even touched Connaughton. Was a textbook eurostep, a basketball play.

Meanwhile Lopez nearly concussed Fred and the refs somehow knew in an instant that it was a "normal basketball play". Not even reviewing it was an admission of corruption.

I don't know what's worse, the horseshit calls or the lying about it afterwards. We can see the video too you corrupt ****wits!
