Uh, yeah sorry to bust up the sanctity of your thread about offensive shortcomings wherein the only player you mentioned was Jalen Green. Let's talk about expectations and context? We want the team to have the same jump on offense lol yeah we'd all take the number 2 offense too. IDIOT I suppose.
There are 56 players currently averaging 19 PPG and 29 players averaging 23 PPG, and pretty much every single one is doing it more efficiently than Jalen Green. Averaging 20 in 2023 is not elite player stuff, particularly if you are terribly inefficient like Green has been. I agree the 25+ PPG type players aren't easy to come by, but finding a guy who can consistently get you 20+ on near league average efficiency is not a hard find. I'm not saying trade Green right now because he's hurting the team, I never have, but improving our offense will have to come from his position, one way or the other.
Then why did you have to comment and respond to his comment if you didn’t want smoke lol. And there’s a few anti-jalen posts already on here already which you’ve been mum about lol
How come Udoka doesn’t play iso ball anymore? He took a Celtic team to the finals in 22 playing iso ball with Tatum and Brown. Tatum was in the top 20 in iso plays. Did the loss to the Warriors scare him away from iso ball?
Other than an all time great in their prime, no one is taking this team from 25th to top 10 offense. Certainly none of our young guys could do it. That's an unrealistic expectation. Udoka is not an elite offensive coach, it's his weak point. This is something he's learning just as much as everyone else. Jalen will get to the next step and the will help us put away a couple of extra teams each month. He'll keep being a starter on a top 5 defensive team while maintaining the ability to explode for 30+ points on any given night. That helps us get into the playoffs. People are starting to forget that we are overachieving. We are going to start hearing about how the young guys improvement doesn't matter because it's not in line with superstars. Beware.
Lmao, it is not Udoka but Ben Sullivan who is a decent Offensive coordinator.......most coaching staffs consist of Offense and Defense guys..... Nobody is a One Man Team. Udoka just reaps the prestige galore and credits ...... The Bucks had a Spacing, Shooting, Offense problem with Giannis.......so they made trades....
Several have thrown up their hands and said, “there’s nothing that can be done.” That kind of non-creative thinking is what is killing us on the offensive side of the board. What the Rockets need to do is find ways to get more cheap baskets. We’ve made a living off that with Eason and effort, but now word is out. We’ll have to do more than just surprise people with defensive effort. I haven’t read anyone suggesting player movement. To me, that’s an underrated way to get people open. Yes the ball has to move but when players who are off ball find creative ways to cut and rotate, they create gaps and moments of indecision. The Rockets create almost zero advantages in these small ways. That’s what I think would make a huge difference. Visualize, Amen catches a pass on the right wing. Eason is at the 3-point line in the right corner. FVV made the pass and is at the top of the key. Alpi is on the left post. Someone else is on the left wing. Amen has that ball and has no space to operate. Someone has to move: Eason out of the corner, FVV out of top of the key. But everyone stands still for 3-4 seconds. It’s a dead possession. If off the ball players move, everyone benefits.
I recall in the first weeks of the season, Ime saying how he was starting the offensive with a pretty simple playbook, and would add plays as the guys got things, or something to this extent. IDK where we are in Ime's playbook plans. IDK how far he has gotten in implementing his ultimate strategy. My point is, it may very well be that adding more plays depends on getting the ones previously presented correct before moving on the more compilated ones. And it does seem like certain players at least, dont run the plays we got very well yet.
I agree with this. we need to add more baseline cuts AND some sets where Sengun faces up and distributes out of the high post.
I don't blame Fred. He's been great. We didn't bring him here to be a superstar, only to give us stability at the PG position. He doesn't turn the ball over and knows where his bread is buttered by getting the ball to Sengun. If he has to miss significant time, lord help us. The vets were supposed to provide us with a floor and the young core (Green in particular) was supposed to provide the ceiling.
I can't abide by this post. I just can't, this is a garbage take. 56 players in a league of what...500 or so? Quick math says that's top 10%. Efficiently or not. That's the top 10% of scorers in the greatest basketball league on the planet. Casually saying "not that hard to find" is just silly. 25ppg scorers are like the top 1% of the NBA. 20ppg are top 10%. You think the league is just handing them out, giving them away? Even further, they have to meet the ppg total AND an efficiency total? That's even less players. Jalen isn't the only 40% fg 14 attempts per game player on this roster. Improvement can come from anywhere.
Adelman style is a bit idealistic. I want to see life out of the players. You don't need a training camp to add a backdoor cut. Every other NBA team invests more in player movement, and they get spacing and open shots on the break.
