Ime is not "overachieving" he adapted to the players he had on his roster. he is coaching. You don't feel like we would be as good with Silas? Duh. Silas doesn't coach. He has no vison for anything. No imagination despite having players who can do other things. Silas is not putting Tari in to guard JJJ last night. Silas is not running Tari and Bari together EVER. Found out Destiny could pass the ball in the short roll during FIBA Summer The Rockets were not that badly built, they were playing in the wrong positions and players were allowed to do things they shouldn't have been doing. Silas was treating Gary like he was Ray Allen. Never made KPJ a spot up shooter. Never played bari and tari together. never played destiny and Sengun together. Benched Sengun for no reason. etc. it wasn't the roster, it was the coach. Rockets dumped 6 players because ime wanted Lopez. Ime was about to bench sengun too because he didnt think he would be able to play defense. Lopez ghosted them. They picked up Green, Jock and Holiday because they had no choice. Ime didn't throw his hands and say oh well. he coached what he had. Now yall think Unc, Jock and Holiday are better than the players rockets would have had, lol. Ime is playing Fred 40 minutes a game because no ne else can dribble for goodness sake. If he had TyTy and KPj Ime's life would be a lot easier. If Ime had Destiny He wouldn't have to play jock minutes. if Ime could coach up Gup he would probably be Holiday on steroids. This squad is not miles better than what the rockets had. Fred and DB are great, but what kind of defense do you think they would be playing under silas? what kind of offense? What would Silas be doing with the bench Ime has now?? think about what you guys are saying. silas had a mandate to play KPj, whatever. but he didnt coach anyone to do anything else? didnt coach accountability. didnt even coach an offense. If you are forced to play a guy, put this dude in other situations for goodness sake. Silas just let them run crazy and yall talking bout he got a bad hand. This should make you guys hate him even more. The softness of silas should make you angry. Yall baby that dude way too much. Ime out her calling Lebron a b**** ass boy and silas crying at the podium and ****. Det is bad built but not 22 game losing streak bad built. I know Monty the HC over there but the same bullshit is happening over there that was happening here. Benching your best players for journeyman players bad defense despite having good defensive layers. makes me think Monty is asking silas for advise.
COTY candidates constantly get credited for overachieving. Nitpicking words for no reason I said tell me where I'm wrong and you reply with "duh" in agreement with my point lol Yes, they were built that bad. They never had enough vets to teach and lead by example on the court. Vets are INTREGAL to youth development and winning. Silas' rotations were again heavily influenced by the FO. Silas was forced to run KPJ as the starting PG. Gary was one of the few players he had who played hard on D and stretched the floor. From Tilman's interview at the practice facility, he said it was intentional to get rid of all the non-key young players for this season. For sure they wanted Lopez and It didn't work out but those guys were gone regardless. Green and Holiday have been MAJOR for us. They are 100% better than the youth we sent out. They know their roles and they play hard on both ends. Ime has the option to bench Green, Smith, Sengun or whoever for reliable vets at the end of games and Silas NEVER had that option. Seems like the same points are repeated, trying to argue that the roster changes haven't been a significant difference is absolutely wild to me. We'd have like 5 or 6 wins at best if weren't for FVV, Brooks, Green, and Holidays contributions IMO. Hating and being angry at a guy who worked 20 years to earn his chance, who is by all accounts a great person, who signed up to coach Harden and was instead handed a 2014 Philly Trust the process level team is again wild to me. Pistons are built like absolute garbage. A team full of young players who can't shoot is ALWAYS a recipe for disaster. Take a look at the routine worst teams in the league and try to see if you can see the trend.
I cant go back and forth with silas sympathizers man. arguing with people who think silas was anything less than absolute ass is futile. the excuses for this dude are dumb. I dont know why I waste my time. I refuse to write another wall of text. I'll just ask these questions to yall: How do you think Ime would have coached last year's team? how do you think the young guys would have developed? Would Unc, Hoilday, Jock be playing on any other team off the bench? How would Silas coach this team? yall can sit in your delusion that Silas wasn't the worst coach on the planet yall can hold that.
Great post. Also a better question, would Udoka have the same results with last year's roster? No he would not. The Rockets are ofcourse better now, but comparing the 2 makes no sense
with ime? probably. Ime got Jalen and Sengun to play defense when people here thought there was no hope
The problem I believe is your Silas posts were annoying like spam emails, not that you were wrong about Silas being an awful coach
I like Ime. He's doing a good job. But this team is one FVV injury away from looking like last year's Rockets.
i agree. people out here thinking this team is so much better than last year. Ime doesn't have as much as some of you think. FVV goes down and uh oh. I do trust Ime to adapt if something that terrible happens. Ime got FVV playing 40 minutes. relying on Unc Green minutes and ****.
- Silas refused to use Sengun as a passer, ime didn’t - Silas refused to use Sengun as a roller, because he wasn’t a lob threat, ime didn’t - Silas couldn’t find a way to use Sengun effectively on defense, ime did - green, though given infinite playing time, did not improve under Silas. He is already better this year. - Jabari was put in the corner to watch kpj and green take turns, ime wouldn’t do that - Silas never held anyone accountable, except for Sengun. İme holds everyone accountable - can’t even imagine kpj doing his on court antics under ime - if the organization forces you do something, you either refuse or live with the consequences - ime is a good nba coach, Silas is not even nba level. That’s how big the difference is.
In the last era, folks did criticize, but we were polite about it. Almost every sentence started with "He seems like a nice, well-liked guy, but... <insert constructive criticism>". And if some of the GM mandates were unreasonable, Silas would have been respected more if he had stood up to the front office and said; I can't work with this. The Joke in PIstons-land is, Detroit fans asking if Monty could be packaged in a deal to be traded . I chuckled and thought, well if that imaginary trade happens and a coach doesn't back, that means the lead-assistant Silas would take the reigns.
On the basketball side, one of the assistants suggested a two man game with kpj and green, where one would screen for the other. I remember seeing it in one game; an in small doses, worked. Silas was asked about it in a post game conference. Then we'd never seen it again. Even with the 'favorites' like KPJ, Silas wasn't using them properly.
So you're mad that he didn't let Sengun run amuck last season? Alperen Sengun didn't earn the right to have that much privilege last year. Also Sengun's defense is bad, but last year it was atrocious. No way that's on Silas
Silas even admitted that his assistants had been telling him to do the KPJ/JG two man game for MONTHS. He just didnt do it. Stone mandated Silas to play KPJ. This made KPJ look really good. Silas doesn't do it after it works. lol
