The Germans were enthusiastic about war, rightfully so. They would have never been able to resolve their war reparations. To be clear, that doesn't excuse the Nazi regime for their atrocities nor do I think that is the route Germany should have taken.
The Biden admin is pumping tons of money into Africa by signing mineral agreements with tons of countries. The difference is when USA signs agreements with african countries we allow them to source local labor for the projects. The chinnese brought in their own labor from China which pissed off alot of locals. I don't think folks realize how much critical minerals the continent has which we deeply need. We didn't put any money or effort into the continent before Biden was elected Biden has spent 2 trillion on climate change supply chains and bringing back critical supply chains (EV battery's, solar panel manufacturing, wind turbines), spent 1.1 trillion on rebuilding our infrastructure and spent 350 billion in giving every city county free money as part of his state aid. We're literally spending 3 trillion+ at home under biden or more than we've ever spent in history of this country. Why do folks act like we don't spend at home?
I'm still trying to figure out WTH Trump did for this s country. Biden has done far far more, regardless of sending billions overseas to help fight a war mongering dictator and Trump ally.
Half the forum thinks Biden is spending too much money overseas and isn't spending enough here when he's literally spending trillions here and the other half of the forums @Commodore thinks Biden is a socialist who's spending too much here. I really have no idea what this country is smoking. Americans are genuinely more dumber and braindead now under biden than at any point in history I feel.
I don't think it is that people don't think we spend at home - I think that there is a growing sentiment that we should stop spending so much outside the USA and spend the money inside the USA. The USA is a great country but it has a lot of issues that it can still address. My comments were not directed at Joe Biden FWIW, it is the current political landscape as a whole.
The Germans were not enthusiastic for war. Hitler's early success through Poland improved the public sentiment, but there were a lot of Germans that did not want to start WWII. I don't think they would have had issues solving their war reparations FWIW. I used to feel the opposite, but my opinion changed in the last decade.
The issue I have with your statement is the vast majority of folks have *no* idea that were spending trillions at home. The latest yougov poll showed that less than a third of Americans are aware that biden passed a climate bill which is spending trillions on manufacturing onshoring. Even a greater majority of folks have no idea biden passed a infrastructure package or that he's repairing roads or bridges. The democratic party has absolutely no idea how to communicate with median voter. They are living in a information bubble and what they're doing isn't being told to the normie voter. If you can show me a single poll that shows the majority of Americans are aware of bidens spending bills I'll send you 100 dollars cash. The core issue at hand isn't the spending but it's the inability of democrats to properly message what they're doing for ordinary folks.
part of the issue is that Americans are stupid. Part of the issue is that dems are poor at messaging. a very large part of the issue is that Biden is simply not compelling. He wins no hearts, inspires nobody, and is boring on his best day and senile on his worst. When you couple that with the two points above, that explains where we are as a country. the whole thing is ridiculous. Americans are so damn stupid.
What the American voter knows is that inflation hit hard around the time of COVID, that the USA doesn't have a health system like other first world countries, that the social welfare net is not on par with other first world countries, that the housing market is insane, and that government has not stepped in to curtail predatory behaviors, that the infrastructure is not as good as it should be and that there are mass transit issues.... People notice these types of problems, and then notice we have been at war for 20 years, that we are getting involved and spending huge sums of money on foreign policy. You look at it differently than a lot of people - it isn't an indictment of Joe Biden anymore than anyone else, it is something that they view as systemic. You can point to specific things that the administration has done, many of which I agree with --- but until people see improvement in those areas, they are going to complain and it is going to influence their voting.
Right - but a lot of this is that there are still problems that have not been addressed effectively by the government, and as those problems blossom, we will see it impact how people vote.
Of course, if the same money was diverted from supporting Ukraine and Israel... the money would not be spent on social programs here in the United States. Heck... it wasn't until the current admin that money was spent on vital infrastructure. The better answer would be... spending on supporting Ukraine and Israel AND spending more wisely on internal spending. Unfortunately, in this political environment that would not even be a possibility.
Biden introduced a student loan program called SAVE PROGRAM which eliminates accurred interest and makes student loan payments ZERO dollars for families earning less than 65k. The WH said close to 35 million folks are eligible for the program but less than 5 million have actually signed up. That's less than 20% of eligible borrowers The vast majority of student borrowers are eligible for much much lower payments but they have no idea such a program exists. Again it stems from bad messaging as I said earlier. I own a medical business which relies on ACA and right now if you've been unemployed even for a day you get free year long insurance. If you make less than 34k as a single person you get free insurance also. I have folks walking into my business every day having absolutely no idea such benefits exist. They get blown away when they find out they qualify. Again the issue is lack of messaging from the administration coordinating that such benefits exist. Americans literally have no idea
We're a country that prides itself on drinking beer and watching football all weekend. If we become a facist country I don't think it should surprise anyone. I've never bought into the argument that as Americans were somehow superior to others. Were dumb as fk

I am all for spending more money at the border, it is a problem, the issue is no one can come to an agreement on how to do it............its a political football that everyone wants to fix but it's to easy to use it as political fodder.
I think everything you said here is valid. But, if you simply substituted a mid level charisma guy who isn’t geriatric or other characteristic that is not electable (like openly gay, which I’m assuming prevents mayor Pete from ever being a candidate), magically democrats and independents would basically be enthusiastic about what the administration has done in the face of extreme inflation, multiple wars, etc. That highlights the stupidity of voters. If Barack Obama had done this, people would be debating whether he should go on Mount Rushmore.
I too want stronger borders. Lots of ways to accomplish that, including hiring more border patrol agents, increased use of technology, working with neighboring countries to reduce people leaving their countries, increasing hiring enforcement, and strengthening physical barriers. Unfortunately, the republicans seem to want to complain but not solve the problem. GOP lawmaker explains vote against Republican border bill https://thehill.com/homenews/house/...explains-vote-against-republican-border-bill/ President Biden requests more border money in hopes of boosting Republican support for foreign aid https://spectrumlocalnews.com/tx/so...icans-react-to-president-biden-border-request House border security bill bumped amid Republican concerns https://rollcall.com/2023/01/23/house-border-security-bill-bumped-amid-republican-concerns/
Yes - this is true, at least to a point. However, again - Biden and other elected officials will pay the cost possibly, but a lot of this is a general dissatisfaction of the status quo for at least 20 years. What people want - who people will vote for - and what the parties represent are in a time of flux. Times change - we have at time been a country that is dovish and other times hawkish. It seems like those in the middle are moving towards wanting less emphasis on issues outside our borders and more concerned with what is happening within the United States - and this seems to be a movement that cuts across party lines as well, and different voting demographics. Joe Biden has done well in a very tough situation globally - but he is a traditionalist as expected, he is almost 80 years old - and he also that there are consequences for just turning around and walking away on foreign issues and neighbors....... but that seems like it is becoming very appealing for a lot of people, including the young and those that are barely affording housing and food.
Why would borrowers want lower payments? That just extends the repayment period. Especially when it goes down to ZERO.
