Interesting numbers, thanks for sharing. "Basically" the same , but not "exactly" the same. There is a meaningful increase in DREB% and DPM, which is what the eye-test tells me as well.
You don't just trade him to get rid of him. If a star or 'near star' shakes loose; maybe last year of their contract. And they're asking for one of your young players, have to have some in the cupboard. It's more than just salary matching. Could also mean the difference of outbid another team who can maybe afford more picks than you. (Thunder, Spurs, Jazz) Ideally if you have Jalen Green on a cheaper longer deal, it's even more valuable. People have their opinions, which is fine. Again lot of guys played bad offensively last night. Wasn't just Green. Let's be happy we got the win. Handed Spurs a franchise record L17 (longest ever).
I think we're pretty much in agreement on Jalen, but just for clarification, his advanced stats currently show a slight regression rather than improvement. TS% is .543 currently, his career average is .542 and his rookie year was his best at .547 EFG is .488 currently, his career average is .494 and again, his rookie year was the high water mark of .508 3 point percentage is currently .336, his career average is .340 and his rookie year was again the high water mark of .343 Shooting from the field is a wash - currently .419 with a career average of .420 and once again his rookie year is the high water mark at .426 Scoring is currently 18.5 down from an average of 19.7 Assists are down from last years 3.7 to 3.0.
His minutes need to be drastically reduced. Hes really a 10-15 min per game player if that. If hes hot you let him cook. If not, sit him because he does nothing else to impact winning when hes not hot.
If you're in the Rockets FO, you're probably saying - how does this guy fit around BOILERMAKER B1G MAN Zach Edey - this is the question that determines the next phase of Jalen Green's career.
Could be peak trade value though, once he's benched for good his value will tank even more than him just performing poorly.
Benched for good? You sound irrationally confident in that when the chances of it happening are slim to none. When he's not playing well Ime will bench him which is fine. If you're going by last night the entire team outside of Tari and to a certain extent Alpi deserved to be benched
You've said it yourself. Other teams must know Jalen's a Michael Beasley tier bust and therefore the Rockets won't get any value for him. Better off riding it out and either resigning him for cheap or maybe he gets good.
When I say "benched for good", I mean no longer being forced into a starter role that he lacks the talent for and being put in a more suitable bench role.
Michael Beasley, Tyreke Evans, O.J. Mayo, Damon Stoudamire, Michael Carter-Williams, Ben Gordon..There are plently of players peak early.
I'm not sure they should waste another contract on him. He might improve enough eventually to be a Jordan Clarkson type, but there's better young talent on the team already that deserves the minutes.
I don't think he lacks the talent at all. That seems to be what he's getting by on. I would say basketball IQ is his problem. His defense has improved but he's far too inconsistent on offense. I just don't see at better option that we have currently. I see a lot of people advocating to trade him but I'm yet to see an actual realistic target. People seem to say "good young player" or All-Star" but that's generic. Sure, if he's best suited for a bench role then that's fine but there still has to be someone to step in and start. Amen isn't a 2, FVV can't play the 2 (and is shooting like 38%) and obviously Dillon Brooks isn't a 2. We're best served hoping he somehow puts it together. I understand the skepticism though
Beasley, Evans and Mayo were drug issues. Stoudemire didn't flame out and neither did Gordon. Carter-Williams was never good
When I say "talent" I mean "skill", he's got the athleticism... he just doesn't have anything else.... just like before he was drafted. I want to see what guys like Cam and Tari and Amen can do with all the opportunity Jalen has wasted. I'm not worried about rigid adherence to traditional positions, I just want to see the best players on the court and I don't think Jalen is a top 7 player on the Rockets. He's not a creator, he's not a shooter, he's not a reliable ball handler, he's not a plus defender... he's just a guy that can run fast and jump high while praying he gets bailed out by a whistle. It's just not good enough.
