John Lucas? The guy whose cocaine habit got himself kicked out of the league when the Rockets were a contender? THAT John Lucas? The guy who submarined his own career and as a coach was at best mediocre? I mean sure, he has rebuilt his life and is a great guy, but he isn't someone that is all that great a judge of anything. DD
What exactly are you wanting to get in return for him? I'm confused by the whole premise. He needs to shoot better from the outside, but the exact fit at the 2 for this team is a high volume scorer who can put up 40 from time to time, which is him. He's also 21 years old. Seems like sometimes, people here just NEED somebody to hate on. I personally like the team they have assembled around our TWO TWENTY-ONE year olds.
I would hope to get a more consistent SG for him, but he would only be part of package, sort of a piece that is still developing along with some of our better picks - we really don't need to draft anyone for 5 years - we have enough young players - so let's go get some actual vets that can perform and shed the chaffe that is not going to be part of that core. Jalen is looking pretty Chaffey right about now. DD
Again how do you know this is low, he has been the same player for 3 years making slight improvements but numbers remain flat - this might just be who he is..... And those that succeed recognize that earlier than others and jettison those players before the rest of the league catches up, he may not be a great player ever, but he isn't terrible, just super inconsistent.....he has some value packaged with picks. DD
I just don't see the appeal of that. You aren't getting a player with a higher ceiling than Green. Especially not with a higher scoring ceiling. You don't need him to be some kind playmaking savant, you have enough passers. I would call any 21 year old "Still developing." If he becomes a Jamal Murray type, thats totally fine with me.
He has always had stretches of high-scoring games, usually in the second half of the season. Might help boost his value.
He's not a franchise player. He's no Wade, no Ray Allen, and definitely no Kobe. Those were all the so call "comparisons" he had. Trade him for picks, or for good role players.
I don't think trading Jalen now would be selling low. At this point many teams might think he still has some potential and the Rockets are giving up too early. Unless Jalen becomes consistent with his play, this might be the highest time to sell him. It's only downhill from here if he keeps up his inconsistent low IQ play. I really really want Jalen to become that star but I'm not seeing it. remember when he did something only Steph Curry did as a rookie (I don't even remember the stat now). those were the days.
Let’s trade him to the Pistons! Pistons: Green, Amen, Bullock, Holiday, Nets 2027 1st Rockets: Cade, Burks
