I have a feeling that Udoka trusts Tate too much to not play him. In fact he seems to trust Tate more than Eason. When Thompson comes back, I just don't see how Whitmore can be squeezed in the rotation unless they are going to put Holiday at the end of the bench and play Amen exclusively at the PG spot behind FVV.
Kid just dropped a 40 burger... I didn't think he would progress THIS quickly. He's simply outclassing the GL at this point. I figured it would be a late season call up for Cam, he's looking like the best player in GL. Sending him to RGV was the right call for sure. Tie an anchor to my waist, there's a timeline where Amen, Jalen and Cam become our 3 guard rotation. You can even get all 3 on the floor because of Amen's versatility.
I like what Ime has done so I certainly won't question him if he sees something I don't. If Csm needs to stay in the G League this season so be it. I don't want Holiday glued to the bench.
Exactly this. It's possible Holiday's production tapers off later in the season and opens the door for Cam.
I love his jump shot, great/repeatable form. If he keeps this up, he has to see some time in the big leagues--we need some of this kind of firepower off the bench.
If Cam continues to shred the G-League, they'll bring him up simply because there is nothing more to learn there. This is a developmental year for Cam and we are only 20 games into the season. It doesn't matter if he's on the main roster for the final 40, 50 or 60 games. There is zero chance they keep him in G-League the entire season if he continues the domination. Cam fans. Just be a little patient. His time is near.
No one needs to take almost 25 shots and only have 2 assists. I know that stat line will excite a lot of fans - but I already knew he had some VERY loud skills and could score and shoot. He needs to blend into the offense and move the ball and find cutters.
A lot of what he did in that game wouldn’t happen in the NBA. The Rockets know he can score and shoot, it’s the rest of game that needs polish - and that is why he is in the G-League. To be clear, he has shown improvement in some areas and I am optimistic about his future - but scoring 42 points doesn’t move the needle for me. I’ll take 8-10 assists over 42 points from Cam every damn day in the G-League.
That’s the brilliance of the G-League, Whitmore can be put into a position to set up teammates and not have the pressure of losing.
We need him to show he can be part of an offense and can and will make the smart play. Defenses in the NBA can find ways to slow him down and if he cannot create or make the right pass, he won’t be playing.
Or they'll funnel him into taking a bad shot knowing his tendencies. Not all 3 pointers are good shots.
I think the concern is him getting tunnel vision and a ball stopper rather than him needing to be a primary playmaker.
This is an overall evaluation year for the vast amount of recent 1st rounders we have on our team and Cam is going to have to wait his turn this season. With the competing goal of winning as much as possible with the OKC pick, we are also going to play vets. I don't see the need to rush with Cam, let him play in the G League and he can be called up if we go through an injury bug.
