I think the question was more like "should experts make the decisions" - and I think that is a very legitimate question. The thing is that experts are always only experts in their specific field. And almost always, there will be experts who disagree with other experts. And if you are a politician in charge and hand-pick the experts you want, you can create an illusion of objectivity in decision making, when that is not actually the truth. Ultimately, politicians in charge have to take into account expertise from different areas and weight the pros and cons and make a responsible decision based on the "big picture". Case in point, of course, Covid, where if you only listen to virologists, you might get to different conclusions than if you also include mental health experts, constitutional lawyers, etc.
Of course it would be an expert in a fiel…. Why would you think otherwise? And I would much prefer a group of experts, with differing decisions, to craft policy on matters related to their field of expertise. Not political donors.
Considering how much "louder" the leftists are in this sub-forum, this is pretty balanced. I know from private messages that a lot of conservatives just don't think the leftists are even listening, so they don't bother.
