The problem is that Yordan is limited to about 25% of the games in the Of. He is simply too important to risk injury and has a history. So if he plays 25% all vs RHP then that leaves about 45% of the games where an OF besides Yordan, Chas, and Tucker must play. Other options vs RHP: Julks ( do not expect him to make the team) 86th out of 138 = 94 wRC+ Meyers: 108th = 80 wRC+ Dubon 100th = 84 wRC+ Considering this team has been challenged to score runs and this is a position dedicated to hitting, a better option must be made.
Do they have room to add a guy like the Cuban pitcher or Hicks. Who would they need to move to open up Weak arm, below avg hitter. Yeah, this is going to go well.
Doesn't matter. They are going to be just as bad as last year. Their lineup is crap and the pitching outside of Cole is horrendous. The need 2 high dollar rotation guys.
The Astros were 2nd best in hitting from the corner OF spots last season versus RHPs despite your perceived thoughts on it being a weakness. Dubon and Meyers mostly played CF. The Astros were 18th in wRC+ in CF vs RHP last season, but got some great defense that overall had the 4th best production in CF (though a lot of this value was versus LHPs). The biggest problem areas last season versus RHPs were 1B, C when Maldy caught, Julks over Alvarez, and Diaz on the bench. Abreu being healthy will fix 1B. Playing Diaz and Caratini at C will fix C. Not playing Julks fixes LF with either Alvarez or Chas. Playing Diaz at 1B when Caratini catches should also get Diaz more PAs versus RHPs. The Astros should have a great offense next year provided Espada doesn't manage like Dusty regarding who plays.
If they want to stay below the CBT while adding a guy like that the only logical answer is Montero. To move him, without eating payroll, you’d have to attach a pretty good prospect.
Caratini’s offense seems kind of like Dubon’s, especially in terms of overall production. I think we’d all take Dubon’s bat at backup C.
Give Altuve an extension and magically make our cap number reduced this year. Or say F it and grab Jordan Hicks.
The Yankees got raided in the Rule V - they lost 3-4 guys. The Guardians did really well with their pick up.
I think they will sign hicks if he is willing. I’d give Altuve another 150 million (counting 2024) If they could stretch that over 7 years you could reduce that cap number a little bit.
Corner OF or CF it doesn't matter. It's just a way for you to manipulate the stats to fit your narrative. The bottom line is that you have both Yordan and Chas listed among your corner OF which makes it look great. But. . . 1) Yordan can not, will not, should not play more than 25-33% of his games in the outfield. 2) In the scenario we are discussing, Chas is playing CF so can't be used there. So the games I am referring to are the, nearly 1/2 the games in a season where neither Yordan nor Chas are available to play LF. In that scenario, who is your LF? and tell me how great he is.
Jake. And he’s middling to poor against RHP in his most recent 2 years. Maybe he grows into something better. They aren’t replacing him now- maybe if he shuts the bed they get that bat you want at the deadline.
I really like what Dana Brown is doing in overhauling the AAA pitching staff. Toss out the guys who project as SP6 or AAAA and replace them with lotto power/spin arms. He may have seen FA RP prices and decided “F this I’ll build my own”.
