He literally stated he would abuse the powers of the office of the presidency on day 1. Even hannity couldn't believe it, so asked him again. And he repeated his answer.

I don't think a lot of people understand one very simple thing: his supporters do not care what he says and they do not care about his policies (like a medical overhaul that will never happen, etc.) He is their guy, and he is the guy for their friends, and that's that. Fox News and CNN helped create this phenom and made a lot of money off it (as did the NYT), but there's nto much to break it down now absent him falling over from a coronary or a national conflagration (which he actively stokes).

I feel like many of us critics keep pointing to very logical or absurd things without understanding that none of that matters in this phenomenon. It's like critiquing a catfish for the fact that it can't fly.

Agreed, there is literally nothing he could do to lose his base.............NOTHING, they are joined at the hip for better or worse. The guy could literally kill someone, be sent to prison and they would still support him.......they identify with him and his views, they finally have someone who is just like them in a perverted way. No amount of ads, no conviction, no felony will stop them from loving the dude.

When people tell you who they are......................LISTEN

I’ve heard from several even Trump supporters that they find a lot of what he says to be stupid. They will fall back in that he is fighting for them and that this is about fighting. Back agains the Left.

Since speaker johnson's mission was accomplished (making trump and his insurrectionist supporters happy), a PR guy quietly walks back the statement...

Hmm... lets compare with mtg's recent self-title book. #4,291 in Amazon books. With a 2.2 rating (1.0 rating on Good Reads).

I guess, if you wanted to be sympathetic to Johnson, you could reason that he worries that a liberal mob would identify a J6 participant who didn't really do anything prosecutable and mount so much public pressure on the DOJ that they bring a criminal indictment against him even though he doesn't deserve it. There has been pressure brought for some participants before, like the guy (or was there more than one?) that Trumpers thought was an undercover agent and they pointed at the lack of an indictment as evidence that he was. I don't know that DOJ ever really felt any pressure to bring a case as a result, but the internet mob was trying to bring pressure. There would have been pressure to charge some infamous participants, like Proud Boys and Oathkeepers and the Shaman and the Pelosi desk guy if DOJ were somehow dragging their feet on it. Maybe there is another shaman in those tapes the public hasn't been introduced to yet.

I remember when she was elected, she was one of the few not toeing the line on "Trump actually won" and such.
I thought, this won't last; it can't. She'll need to start outrageous crap because it's all about the fundraising.
Fame of Congress got to her. She remembered that t**s can open doors.

    FIFY.

I said it before. Imagine Godzilla on a rampage, devours half of Tokyo. "Ugh," groans Go-ji-ra, "I'm so stupid, I've got the B.G.'s (bubble guts)." Takes a giant dump.

You know those comparison charts, say, Empire State Building next to the Eiffel Tower next to the Egyptian pyramids?

Put Trump next to the dump that Godzilla took. Trump is the bigger piece of s***. And people love him.

When I was a kid I thought that so many people are generally stupid. Forty years later. Who knew that it could get worse.

While the Bakersfield area is pretty conservative, the previous four congressmen from his district were Democrats and the district has voted Democrat in larger elections (eg Biden and Obama). This could be an interesting race when mccarthy leaves.

Hell, even progressive sites are guilty of building up Trump. It's not just that their dislike feeds the beast. Think of the creature in Batman vs Superman who kept absorbing everything thrown at it and grew invincible; except there's no kryptonite spear for Trump (so far, anyway).

Progressive outlets like TYT bash "corporate Democrats" far more than they do Trump. Hell, they even love him as a comedian. Trump makes money for every media outlet, love or hate him, and so they report everything he says or does, and as such he will not go away.

What he's done to this country will never be undone. If he's allowed to run and if he wins, God help our democracy.
