Dubon is perfect player for this team. He just needs to be played correctly. Start 4 games per month at 2B. (Altuve 2 games at DH, 2 games off) Start 2 games per month at SS ( Pena days off) Be available if someone gets hurt.
I hope Meyers can at least hit his weight. Has he gotten to a place where his arm isn't a liability? Isn't being able to throw well part of playing defense?
I want to cash in on his career year while opening the door for Kessinger. I’m a Kessinger believer though so your mileage may vary.
Going to optimistically predict that if Meyers gets 400+ PA as a CF that the Astros will have three 3+ WAR OFs next season.
This is if everything breaks Brown's way. Doubtful this happens. It's gonna be disappointing when all Brown does this winter is sign a guy like Barnhart. But that looks like what's happening.
Meyers never had a great arm even before the injury, but people don't realize that it's better than Chas' Jake: 58th percentile. 86 mph avg. 97.6 mph max. Chas: 50th percentile. 85 mph avg. 90.1 mph max
Here's an optimistic fan. They won 90 games last year. They will have to be healthier next season to win more than that. It's not out of the question. But expecting this out of Meyers is crazy. He's going to hit.230 and throw like a girl. Hopefully somebody in the minors will be ready by the all star break because it looks like Crane isn't going to spend the money to put the best team on the field. Heck, Brown should just play Corona in CF. He can probably hit .230 and play better defense than Meyers. I know Corona has a much better arm. You nerds are getting your wet dream. I hope y'all are right.
Dana Brown talks too much. He popped off saying Tucker and Bregman would be extended and now he's saying he feels good something will happen by Thursday. Just shut up and do your job because you look like a fool when nothing happens. Talk is cheap!!
Gonna be interesting to see if Dave Roberts publicly talking about meeting with Ohtani will be the reason he doesn't sign with the Dodgers. Let's see if Ohtani was just bluffing or means it.
Another thing is, he said he wasn't looking for starting pitchers but will look for relievers and a backup catcher. Then the next week he said he was looking for depth starters. And now it seems like they're aren't aggressively going after a starter but only if the right deal comes along. But can't see free agents signing with them for a discount or teams offering pitchers for fair deal since other teams will probably offer more.
Astros Not Planning To Trade Jake Meyers Chatting with reporters from the Winter Meetings, Astros general manager Dana Brown indicated this evening that the team is planning to give Jake Meyers and Chas McCormick regular outfield run (relayed by Ari Alexander of KPRC 2). Meyers will get the first shot at holding down the center field job, while McCormick is expected to play primarily in left field. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/12/astros-not-planning-to-trade-jake-meyers.html
