He would have probably been a solid three point shooter too if bigs were allowed/encouraged to do that during his era. He was money from the midrange and at his peak was a pretty good free throw shooter. Which is why comparing players across eras is so difficult. I think Hakeem today would have produced similar numbers to Embiid except a little less passing and even better scoring, and of course vastly superior defense.
Still it's Kessler. Who won a chip with Kessler archetype in the last 10 years? Jokic, Looney-Green, Brook, AD, Bosh, Duncan. 7ft tall lob threat archetype wins you chips thing must die. The days of Drummonds, DeAndre Jordans are over. 5s need to be .30-.35 3pt shooters, they need to be able to pass. If you find a big who is skilled and a lob threat then good for you (Adebayo, Lopez) but that combination is hard to find in a big so if there is a pure brawler (Deandre Jordan) and a skilled big (Jokic) on the table, in 2023, i'll pick skilled big 10 times out of 10.
Sengun averages 21ppg with thanks to his elite post game. Hakeem would average 30+ (he would be a decent 3pt shooter). Nobody can guard him in the post in this era.
Problem is it won't even matter if he's scores 40. If he doesn't shoot threes he won't win. Plain and simple. 3>2. I would love to see him play in this era cuz he had a good shot I remember him making those threes at the end of blowouts all the time. Curious what his three point percentage would be. Funny you say he played against the best bugs. Sometimes I wonder how good those guys were considering for every Ewing, Robinson, Shaq . There were 5 out right scrubs like Will Purdue. Bill Wennington. Shawn Bradley. Bison Dele. Etc....
I wish the Rockets could do more to have Hakeem tutor Alpi than one short PR workout. Now that Alpi is firmly established as our franchise player, DO SOMETHING TO SUPPORT HIM TILMAN! Help the legacy of bigs in Houston continue.
In all seriousness, given the fact that Alpi will be the Rockets' franchise player for the next 10 years, paying a million or so a year to Hakeem for a session every other week on average might be a good investment, from Tilman's perspective.
Mark my words: This is the game Alpi explodes and shuts the doubters' mouths for good. You can bet your car, house, guns and kids on it.
Turkish Proverb for real: "Horse, Wife and Gun. You don't trust those three to anyone!" Sorry but I can't bet on those three and kids by extension of my wife.
He was fine until the 4th quarter but jesus what a disaster of a quarter from him and and the rest of the team.
He needs real players to help him, not Kids like Green and Jabari. I like Green and Jabari, but as a total package , they bring nothing to this team. For Green, he is not NBA play inn team player yet, as physchology... This is very clear. Sengun is not Superman or Thor, in order to become successfull, he needs good players around him... He shows Great effort, he is a warrior, l just make empathy with him, as a player you play with passion, you try to win and you have Green and Jabari as your team mates.. If Rockets wants to contend, they need to max Sengun and surround him with real, mature NBA players..
It was the turnovers disrupted our rhythm. We had a great first quarter then Jalen decided to become ass again. Idc if AD is made of glass or Lebron is 40 you can't keep turning the ball over against these guys they will punish you. After that run everybody lost their focus including Sengun. It turned into Silas ball.
I didn't like the 21 pts on 25 shots. Who does he think he is? Cade Cunningham. Defensively he disrupted and frustrated the brow. I liked the noncalls on both. That's how it should be.
Green disrupts and disrupted the rythm of this and everygame. Our SG has no baskeball iq.. And Sengun is miles away a better player than Cunnungham.. Sengun does not deserve this fanbase. This kid does everything and needs real players around him, it looks like a grown man trying to play with kindergarten kids(Green and Jabari), they do not how to cut, when to pass. Their fundamental is awful.... And Sengun tries to win with these Kids.. Hard, so Hard..
Guarantee it’d be better than 18% which is what Giannis shot during his playoff title run. Also disagree with those guys being scrubs at least not all of them. Shawn Bradley was averaging around 10/8 with 3 + blocks his first 6 or 7 years in the league. He’d prob have at least 4 more seasons finishing as the blocks leader to his resume if he played this last decade. Perdue and Wenninton were both career backups. It’d be like comparing for every Jokic and Embiid there’s way more Mike Muscala, Frank Kimensky or iHart’s.
One thing i like is that he's improved at many things in just one season. He now has a midrange shot that's undeniable at this point. He's getting automatic from there. He can make 3s 0.32 (2.8 attemps) which is fine for a center and there is no reason to believe that he won't get better. Took a defensive leap. He can hold his ground doesn't get bullied. He did an exceptional job against Davis imo. At one point AD was 2/9 against him. AD did score on him obviously but it wasn't an asswhooping by any means. AD did unspeakable things to Chet the other day. Sengun defended AD much better than Chet did. So him improving at many different aspects of game really in just 1 season is really impressive imo. You don't see that often. Usually it takes a season to sharpen 1 tool.
