He's actually finishing within 0-3ft (at the rim) at a .756% clip. He sucks from 3-10ft at .314%. His defense is much much improved, disagree there. Mediocre passer i agree but hes improving slightly. Mediocre ball handler i kinda agree. Mediocre shooter i agree. I would call 80% from FT good, especially considering his shooting otherwise. He is a plus athlete, also agree there. Strong disagree to "its time to move on". Just waaay too early for that non sense
In all seriousness Jalen is really young, he will make some of you look like idiots in a couple of years. Which ones? I have no idea lol If he and Fred were more efficient we'd be 10 - 5 or 11 - 4. They have to shoot better if we're gonna make the playoffs this year.
He doesnt take shots in the 4th thats his fault. Just like the whole standing in the corner if I dont have the ball thing is his fault.
Those finishing numbers fit the eye test - he makes dunks and when there's a defender in the way and has no answer other than straight forward. There was an early possession against the Mavs tonight where he got stood up in that ~3-10 range. As soon as that play went down, I was thinking he would have a tough night and how this thread would add ~5 pages in short order. Defensively, yes, he has improved but let's be completely honest, he's still pretty bad overall as a defender. He routinely gets beat by back cuts and blows rotations, fails to close out strong and is often out of position. Better is relative to "Silas bad" - It would be hard to not be better .... yep, he's better, just not better enough. FT shooting - League average is currently .782. Jalen is shooting .790 (that's also his exact career average) .....008 above league average. 2023-24 NBA Season Summary | Basketball-Reference.com Jalen Green Stats, Height, Weight, Position, Draft Status and more | Basketball-Reference.com You might get me to believe his "upside" is worth a roll of the dice thru the end of the season but I just don't see a reason to buy that upside other than his athleticism, there's really nothing he does exceptionally well that gives us any inclination he's able to contribute to winning consistently. I'd love to be wrong, Jalen becoming a consistently good player really helps finish the franchise roster building plan.
We may have differing views on his future, but I can’t deny that he has a lot of work to do in order to become the player I hope he ends up as. I think the support system around him now will be critical in helping him reach his potential. He has good vets, a good coaching staff, and (relatively) low expectations. If he cannot make it work here he won’t have many more chances.
Jalen will improve with a bit of time. Let's chill and give him that. He's gotta fine-tune his shooting a bit. Considering he's only in his third year, the guy's already nailing pretty much everything else.
I'm pro Jalen. His road performances have been very poor as compared to his last two home ones. We aren't going to come near the play in if he doesn't make a major improvement. He should take more mid range shots and attack the rim more aggressively. This will make it easier for him to knock down 3 point shots. He should focus on his ball handling in practice and on defense.
He's the real MVP of our squad, hands down. Changing that? Nah, doesn't seem likely. When you've got a guy who was the number two pick, you don't just back off – you double down on that investment. We're sitting on a goldmine with him, someone who's got the whole package and can light up the court in every way.
For sure, I get why you're sticking with Jalen. Road games have been tough on him, unlike those back-to-back home game bangers he delivered. If we're dreaming about hitting that play-in spot, Jalen's game has gotta level up, no two ways about it. You're spot on about mixing up his attack. If he starts sinking those mid-rangers and tearing it up in the paint, he'd totally stretch the defense. Then, boom, his three-point game becomes a nightmare for the other side. And yeah, practice is where magic happens. If Jalen can tighten up his handles and get down and dirty on D, we've got ourselves a whole different ballgame. That's how we turn those 'almosts' into 'score!' on the court.
You mention expectations - I don't even have a clue what the expectations are now. I know they started very lofty - "The next Kobe", however unfair that was the starting point. Now we're hearing Zach Lavine & Jordan Clarkson comparisons .... is that realistic? Is either of those guys a "Winning player"? Lavine has contributed to one season of better than a .500 record out of 10. His 3 best seasons are 46, 40 & 31 wins. 4 career playoff games. Clarkson's career numbers are very similar to Green's (Clarkson's shooting numbers are slightly better across the board) and while he has played on a couple good teams, he's been a bench player aside from the 3 years he spent with the tanking Lakers - 21-, 17- & 26-wins accounting for 136 of his 219 career starts. If that's where the expectations / comparisons are, I'm not so sure it's worth the continued effort to see the end result.
As you see the chart below, Jalen's FG% and 3P% have not improved at all in the past three years. I know shooting is not everything in basketball. However, if a shooting guard has a shaky handle and cannot shoot, how far can he go? I'm not expecting Green having a third year leap like Barnes, improving his 3P% from .280 to .370. At least I expect Green to improve like Suggs, from .320 to .360, which is very reasonable with enough practice in the summer, especially if you are the #2 pick in the draft. If you can't even show improvements in the contract year, when are you going to show it? I agree with most of the posts here that we should give him time, but I don't think he should play that much minutes per game when he is not ready. In other words, let him earn his minutes just like everybody else. Alright, here's the deal, straight up—no need to butter me up for it because this take is sizzling but it ain't out there. So we’re talking about the top of the draft class—biggest potential, highest scorer, most determined dude to snag the crown, some edges to smooth out, for sure, but already killing it. If this cat ain't our future, I’m stumped. What's the game plan been all about? Sure, we’ve got Jabari doing his thing, but c'mon, this is a guard's league, MJ's legacy and all. Sengun's so so, and he ain't the rock of a solid D. Jalen? Oh, he's got the toolkit to go there. Amen's shot isn't dialed in enough just yet. Cam’s looking like old school in an era of next-gen graphics. Fred VanVleet rolling up with a short lease that's basically yelling he's a placeholder, and Dillon Brooks? Man, his offensive bag isn’t hefty enough to be “the guy.” But Jalen? Man, he’s the answer. No need for forums when you got the facts. Team USA’s gotta be keeping tabs on Jalen. When he’s on the court, it’s like watching a mixtape live. The stuff he’s pulling? Straight superstar moves. Just needs to shift gears, which looks like what he’s gunning for this summer. Bet the Houston top dogs are all in on him, eyes on the prize to ascend to the throne. And if he doesn't? Plenty of ballers in the queue. Coach Ime's gotta be in the hot seat for the All-Star Game, time to level up! So, Jalen, lace up, man. That throne is for the taking. Ball out, and it’s all yours.
Stopped reading at Sengün is So So.....okay dude. He is basically the guy in the middle who performs the best on the Road....lmao whereas everyone else So so.
Can’t speak for anyone else but my expectation is for him to develop into an all-star caliber scorer down the line. Am I being realistic..? I’d like to hope I am. But again, my takes always tend to skew towards the optimistic. I think he’s shown me enough flashes, but now he needs to turn the flashes into actual offensive consistency
